Google Drive is not a documented way to resume that YouTube transfer. If your only copy is in Drive, first make the original file available on your computer, then select it on YouTube.
Continue an interrupted YouTube upload
- Return within 24 hours. YouTube Help says an interrupted upload can be continued for up to 24 hours. Open youtube.com/upload.
- Select the same file from your computer. Choose the original video file you selected before the interruption. YouTube’s instruction is to select the same file; do not substitute an edited, re-encoded, or otherwise different copy when trying to continue that transfer.
- Let the transfer proceed. If the upload appears slow rather than failed, YouTube recommends allowing it to finish when possible. Connection quality, upload traffic, file size and type, and video quality can all affect how long it takes.
The 24-hour period is the continuation window described by YouTube, not a promise that every interrupted upload will resume successfully. If the window has passed, or YouTube reports an error instead of continuing, troubleshoot the specific error rather than repeatedly selecting files and assuming the old transfer can be recovered.

What to do if the video is in Google Drive
Google Drive and YouTube treat these as separate uploads. Drive’s help guidance covers uploading a video into Drive and troubleshooting that process; it does not describe resuming a YouTube upload directly from Drive.

- Open YouTube’s upload page within the 24-hour window and select that same file from the computer.
- If the problem is instead that the video will not upload into Drive, troubleshoot the Drive transfer separately. Drive suggests checking connection stability and available storage, trying a private or incognito window or another browser, or using its desktop or mobile app. Those are Drive-upload remedies, not YouTube-resume steps.

If YouTube still will not continue
Read the exact error message and identify which service is receiving the file. YouTube lists several different classes of upload problem, including network or browser trouble, unsupported formats, account or channel restrictions, and daily upload limits. These may need different fixes; restarting the same resume attempt will not resolve every category.
- Network or browser error: Check that the connection is stable and try an up-to-date browser. For a slow transfer without an error, YouTube advises letting it finish if possible.
- Format error: Check whether YouTube supports the file format. A format rejection is not the same as an interrupted transfer.
- Account, channel, or daily-limit message: Follow the restriction described in the error; choosing the file again will not remove an account or limit restriction.
- Drive reports the error: Apply Drive’s upload troubleshooting, including checking available Drive storage. This concerns the transfer into Drive, not the YouTube continuation window.

Check file limits before trying again
YouTube Help currently states a maximum upload size of 256 GB or a duration of 12 hours, whichever is less. It also recommends an up-to-date browser for files over 20 GB. These are YouTube’s published help figures accessed in 2026; check the current large and long video upload guidance before retrying a particularly large file, since platform requirements can change.
