If your Fire TV home screen is not working after you installed or changed a launcher, restart the device first. If Settings still opens, try Amazon’s general app-recovery steps and check for a Fire TV software update. Amazon’s public help pages do not document one supported procedure for reverting a third-party launcher across all Fire TV models and Fire OS versions, so avoid clearing unidentified system components or following device-specific reset steps on the wrong model.
First, tell a launcher problem from a display or remote problem
If the picture is visible and the remote can navigate Settings, but pressing Home opens a broken or unwanted interface, treat it as a launcher or navigation issue. If the screen is black, the Fire TV appears not to respond, or the remote is dead, start with that symptom instead. Amazon’s blank-screen guidance covers power, TV input and HDMI checks; these diagnose a display path, not a broken launcher.

- Picture visible, Settings reachable: follow the software recovery steps below.
- Black screen or no signal: confirm the Fire TV is powered, select the correct TV input, and reseat the HDMI connection. If needed, try another HDMI cable or hub, as Amazon recommends.
- Remote does not respond: check its batteries. For a Fire TV Smart TV, Amazon recommends AAA alkaline batteries; the Fire TV mobile app may serve as a temporary remote where available. These are remote checks, not launcher repairs.
Restart the Fire TV before changing app settings
If Settings is accessible, use its restart option. Amazon’s general app troubleshooting also advises unplugging the Fire TV power adapter for one minute, then reconnecting it, when an app crashes, will not open or stops responding.

If Settings works, try Amazon’s general app recovery steps
Clear cache or data only for an app you can identify
On Fire TV, open Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications, select the affected app, then choose Clear Cache. If that does not help, Clear Data may reset the app’s local settings or state. Amazon describes these as general app troubleshooting steps; its instructions do not identify a third-party launcher package. Do not guess which system component is the launcher or clear its data based on a package name you are unsure about.
Amazon notes that a device may automatically clear unused app cache when the app has not been used for more than 30 days and storage is low. That background cleanup is not a method for restoring a launcher.

Check for a Fire TV software update
Go to Settings > My Fire TV or Device & Software, then About > Check for System Update. Menu labels vary by model and software version. Amazon lists an outdated system as a possible cause of app problems; an update is a general troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix for a third-party launcher.
If Home still opens the broken launcher
Amazon’s reviewed support instructions do not explain how to revert a third-party launcher or confirm that launcher-remapping utilities are supported for every Fire TV model and Fire OS version. If Home continues to open the unwanted interface, contact Amazon support before attempting unsupported changes, especially if you cannot reach Settings.

Have these details ready so support can give model-specific guidance:
- Your exact Fire TV model (Stick, Cube or Smart TV model).
- The Fire OS or software version, if Settings is accessible.
- Whether Settings opens and what happens when you press Home.
- Whether the picture is visible and the remote responds.
Use a factory reset only as a last resort
A factory reset erases the device’s configuration; you will need to complete setup and account configuration again. Amazon’s detailed remote-button reset instructions cited here are specifically for Fire TV Smart TVs: hold Back and Right together for 10 seconds, then follow the on-screen option to continue with the reset. Amazon also describes a recovery-mode route for Smart TVs when remote reset is unavailable. Verify the procedure for your exact model before proceeding; do not apply the Smart TV button sequence to every Stick or Cube.

- Getting set up is easy – Plug in and connect to Wi-Fi for smooth streaming.
Do not deregister the device as a shortcut. Amazon says deregistration removes it from your Amazon account and disconnects access to digital content and Amazon services until it is registered again; it is not a launcher-recovery step.
