Google says file owners and people with edit access can view past versions and restore them. See Google Docs Editors Help: Collaborate in Sheets and Google Docs Editors Help: Manage data.
Choose whether to restore or copy the older version
| Option | What happens | Best when |
|---|---|---|
| Restore this version | The selected revision becomes the active spreadsheet. | You want the file itself to return to that earlier state. |
| Make a copy | You create a separate copy of the selected earlier version while keeping the current spreadsheet separate. | You want to inspect or recover earlier contents without replacing the current file. |
Restore the selected revision
Before restoring, consider whether the cell-by-cell edit history matters: Google warns that restoring an earlier spreadsheet version clears the cell-by-cell edit history for changes made before the restore. If that history is important, make a copy instead.
