To restart a YouTube ambient stream after a power cut, configure four separate links in the recovery chain: the PC must power on when electricity returns, Windows must launch OBS, OBS must request the stream, and the network must be ready. YouTube’s encoder auto-start setting also needs to allow the broadcast to begin. A UPS can help with brief cuts, but it cannot keep a stream running after its battery is exhausted.
How automatic recovery works
A power cut can stop a stream at several points. OBS cannot restart a computer that has no power; a computer that boots does not necessarily open OBS; OBS opening does not guarantee that it starts streaming; and a successful encoder connection depends on the network and YouTube broadcast settings. Configure and test each link rather than relying on one setting to restore everything.
1. Make the computer power on when electricity returns
Check the motherboard or system firmware for a setting commonly named “Restore AC Power Loss” or similar. ASUS ROG’s support guidance says that enabling its Restore AC Power Loss function restores system operation and powers on automatically when power reconnects after a failure: ASUS ROG India support: Restore AC Power Loss function.
The menu name, location and availability vary by motherboard and PC. Consult the documentation for your exact system; do not assume every computer has this feature. If firmware is set to remain off after an outage, Windows and OBS startup settings cannot bring the machine back on.

2. Start OBS and request streaming in Windows
An OBS Project community discussion describes adding --startstreaming to an OBS shortcut, then placing the shortcut in the Windows Startup folder or using Task Scheduler. This is community guidance, not an official guarantee that every Windows and OBS setup will behave identically. See the OBS community discussion on autostart after a reboot.
- Find the OBS executable. Use the installed OBS shortcut’s target or locate the executable on your system.
- Create a dedicated shortcut. Add
--startstreamingto the shortcut’s target after the executable path, preserving the existing path and its quotation marks. Check the result carefully; malformed shortcut targets can prevent OBS from opening. - Run it at sign-in or startup. Place the shortcut in the Windows Startup folder, or configure an appropriate Task Scheduler task. Which approach is suitable depends on your Windows setup and whether a user sign-in is required.
- Test without an outage. Restart Windows normally and confirm OBS opens, loads the intended scene or source, and attempts to stream. Do not wait for a real power failure to discover that the shortcut or task is incorrect.
A startup shortcut can request a stream; it does not make the internet connection available sooner. The OBS discussion warns that a PC and OBS may start before networking equipment or the connection is ready. If the initial attempt fails, automatic reconnect may not recover in every configuration. A delayed launch or a retry/check for network availability may be needed. Test the sequence with your router and any other network equipment included.

3. Check YouTube’s encoder auto-start setting
YouTube’s live stream settings include auto-start and auto-stop controls, which let a broadcast be started or stopped from the encoder. YouTube also says that Reuse settings copies these choices. Check the settings on the broadcast you intend to use and make sure its auto-start behavior is suitable for encoder-driven streaming. The setting governs the broadcast; it does not power on your PC or launch OBS. See YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
4. Decide whether a UPS is useful for your outages
A UPS may bridge a short interruption, but whether it can do so depends on the connected load and the runtime available at that load. For a streaming setup, consider whether both the PC and network equipment can be connected, and compare candidate units by supported output, runtime at your actual load, battery replacement and service.

An OBS community participant mentions using an APC battery backup in a discussion of 24/7 streaming, while the original poster describes outages long enough to exhaust a UPS. That is an individual account, not a test, model recommendation or runtime estimate. No India-specific model or runtime is established here. Test the full recovery chain
Once the settings are in place, test each link in a controlled restart or other safe test appropriate to your equipment. Verify that the computer starts, Windows launches OBS, OBS loads the right content and attempts to connect, the network is available, and the YouTube broadcast shows the expected live status. Confirm the stream itself rather than treating an open OBS window as proof of recovery.

- PC stays off: Check whether the system supports and has enabled its firmware AC-restoration behavior.
- PC starts but OBS does not: Review the Startup shortcut or Task Scheduler configuration and confirm that Windows reaches the required startup or sign-in state.
- OBS opens but does not stream: Check the shortcut argument, the selected broadcast and YouTube’s encoder auto-start behavior.
- OBS tries but fails to connect: Check whether the router and internet connection were ready when OBS launched. Consider a delay or retry/check mechanism, then test again.
- The stream does not resume after a long outage: A UPS may have exhausted its battery; verify that the post-restoration startup chain works independently.
