You usually do not need to recreate your App Store screenshot design for every device size. When your app’s interface and screenshot content work across sizes and localizations, Apple lets you submit the highest-resolution screenshots required and scales them down. Create custom exports only when the scaled result would hurt readability, framing, or localization.
Choose between Apple’s scaling and custom screenshots
Apple’s guidance is straightforward: if the app interface is the same across device sizes and localizations, provide only the highest-resolution screenshots required; App Store Connect scales them down. If a smaller version makes text hard to read, crops important content, or otherwise weakens the presentation, add a tailored set for that device size or language through Media Manager. Apple’s upload instructions describe both approaches.

- Use downscaling when the same composition remains clear and appropriate at smaller sizes and across languages.
- Make a custom variant when the target needs different framing, text placement, or localized copy to remain effective.
Do not stretch one export to arbitrary dimensions. Apple accepts specific pixel dimensions for each platform, device group, and orientation, and some groups have more than one accepted resolution.
Check the required dimensions before exporting
There is no single universal App Store screenshot size. Apple’s current screenshot specification table lists accepted dimensions and submission requirements by platform and display class. Check that live table before each export or submission; the examples below reflect Apple’s table as checked on October 4, 2026, and device support can change.

| Platform or device group | Examples of accepted portrait dimensions | Requirement or qualification |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone 6.9-inch | 1260 × 2736, 1290 × 2796, or 1320 × 2868 pixels | Landscape uses the same dimensions reversed. If 6.9-inch screenshots are not provided, Apple currently requires the 6.5-inch group for iPhone apps. |
| iPhone 6.5-inch | 1284 × 2778 or 1242 × 2688 pixels | Use this group where applicable under Apple’s current requirement. |
| iPad 13-inch | 2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732 pixels | Required if the app runs on iPad. Landscape uses the dimensions reversed. |
| Mac | 1280 × 800, 1440 × 900, 2560 × 1600, or 2880 × 1800 pixels | Apple lists 16:10 sizes. |
| Apple TV | 1920 × 1080 or 3840 × 2160 pixels | Use an accepted size from Apple’s current table. |
| Vision Pro | 3840 × 2160 pixels | Apple’s current table requires this size. |
| Apple Watch | Model-specific dimensions | Apple says to use one screenshot size consistently across localizations for the app. |
These are examples, not a substitute for the complete table. Apple also documents older device groups and scaling fallbacks. Its current reference lists an iPhone Duo with outer and inner display sizes, but says asset-upload support for that device will be available later this year; confirm current availability on Apple’s page rather than treating that note as a guarantee.
Resize a design without recreating it
- Inventory your targets. List the platforms, device groups, orientations, and localizations you support. Apple lets you manage screenshot sets for different sizes and languages in Media Manager.
- Record accepted dimensions. For each target that needs a custom export, check Apple’s current table and note width and height separately for portrait and landscape.
- Decide what can be shared. If the same content remains legible and well-framed, submit the highest-resolution required set and let Apple scale it down. Reserve custom variants for targets where scaling or longer localized text creates a real presentation problem.
- Keep the source composition editable. In your design file, keep the app screen, copy, device frame, background, and decorative elements as separate editable layers or components. Then adjust layout or text for a target without rebuilding the whole composition. This is workflow advice, not an Apple requirement for a particular file format or design tool.
- Export and validate each variant. Match the exact accepted width, height, and orientation. Apple accepts one to ten screenshots in JPEG, JPG, or PNG format; images must not contain an alpha channel or transparency.
- Name files so they cannot be confused. Include platform, device group or dimensions, orientation, and locale in each filename—for example, a clear distinction between an iPhone portrait export and an iPad landscape export.
- Upload and inspect. Add the screenshots in App Store Connect, using Media Manager when supplying custom device-size or localization sets. Check the selected sets and resulting product-page presentation after upload.
Apple’s upload guidance covers screenshot upload and Media Manager. For an API-based upload workflow, Apple also documents App Store Connect API screenshot uploads.

Know which platform rules can affect your submission
Screenshot requirements vary by platform and by the devices your app supports. Apple marks the 13-inch iPad group as required when an app runs on iPad, and its specification page gives required screenshot sets for Mac, Apple TV, Vision Pro, and Apple Watch apps. Some older iPhone and iPad groups can use screenshots scaled from a larger group. Consult the live table for your app’s exact targets instead of assuming an iPhone set covers every platform.
