If you use Verizon, its documented Android reset is to force-stop the Visual Voicemail app and clear its app data. Samsung voicemail setup and menus vary by carrier, so do not treat that Verizon path as a universal Samsung procedure.
Before resetting, identify the problem
A Visual Voicemail app reset is for an app that will not refresh, display messages, or complete setup. It does not reset your voicemail password or guarantee that a carrier service problem will be fixed. Samsung says voicemail options and app names vary by carrier; its general setup guidance is to open the voicemail app, review the details, grant the requested permissions, and follow the prompts. Samsung’s voicemail guidance directs carrier-specific questions to the carrier.

- Stuck inbox or missing notifications: try the restart and, for Verizon, app reset below.
- Password rejected: use the carrier’s password recovery process instead of clearing app data.
- App unavailable or service not provisioned: check carrier eligibility and network requirements.
Restart the phone, then reset Verizon Visual Voicemail if needed
The following app-data procedure is a Verizon Android example, not a universal Samsung menu path. Verizon says clearing data in this reset does not delete voicemail messages. Menu labels can vary with Galaxy model and software version. Verizon’s Android Visual Voicemail troubleshooting steps describe the procedure.

- Restart your Samsung phone and open Visual Voicemail to see whether it refreshes.
- If the issue remains, open Settings > Apps > Visual Voicemail.
- Tap Force stop, then open Storage and tap Clear data.
- Close and reopen Visual Voicemail, follow any setup prompts, and check whether the inbox works.
Do not assume clearing data has the same effect for every carrier’s app or mailbox. Avoid deleting voicemail messages while troubleshooting: Verizon says deleted messages cannot be retrieved, while archived messages are saved to the device’s internal storage. Check the connection and carrier service
Verizon: use mobile data and check call forwarding
Verizon Android Visual Voicemail requires mobile data; Wi-Fi alone is not enough. Check that mobile data is enabled and Verizon coverage is available. Verizon also recommends checking that Call Forwarding is off when voicemail is not working. Its Android inbox and network mailbox are usually synchronized, but changes made offline may not sync until data coverage returns. Verizon’s troubleshooting guidance covers these checks.
AT&T: confirm eligibility and network access
AT&T says Visual Voicemail requires a compatible smartphone, an eligible AT&T Wireless or AT&T Prepaid voice-and-data plan, and a connection to AT&T’s wireless network. For Samsung setup, AT&T instructs customers to open the Visual Voicemail app. If the app is missing or setup does not proceed, confirm service eligibility with AT&T. AT&T Visual Voicemail support provides its requirements and setup direction.

Use audio voicemail if the visual app still will not work
For Verizon, dial *86 to reach the audio voicemail box if the Visual Voicemail app is unusable. This access code is carrier-specific; customers with another carrier should use that carrier’s voicemail access instructions. Verizon’s voicemail access guidance describes the *86 option.
Recover a forgotten voicemail password separately
If the symptom is a rejected password rather than an inbox that will not refresh, resetting Visual Voicemail app data is not the right fix. Verizon directs customers to reset a forgotten voicemail password through My Verizon or by dialing *611. For another carrier, use its own password recovery instructions. Verizon’s troubleshooting page includes its password-reset routes.
