To reset the Microsoft Store cache in Windows 11, press Windows key + R, type wsreset.exe, and select OK. A blank Command Prompt window is expected; Microsoft says it closes after about ten seconds and Microsoft Store opens automatically.
Reset the Microsoft Store cache with wsreset.exe
- Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
- Type
wsreset.exe, then select OK. - Wait for the blank Command Prompt window to close. Microsoft says this takes about ten seconds; Microsoft Store should then open automatically. See Microsoft’s cache reset instructions.
- Try the Store action that failed, such as opening the Store, finding an app, or installing it.
This clears the Microsoft Store cache; it is not the Windows Reset this PC recovery operation. It may not resolve problems caused by account restrictions, app availability, compatibility, or an app-specific fault.

If Microsoft Store still will not open
Microsoft recommends checking that Windows is up to date and verifying the device’s time and location settings. Follow the launch troubleshooting in Microsoft Store doesn’t open.
If you cannot find Microsoft Store, search for it from Start. Its availability can also be affected by using a local account or by an administrator policy on a work device. See Can’t find Microsoft Store app.

If an app will not open or install
For a problem with a particular app from the Store, Microsoft recommends closing and reopening it, checking for Windows updates, checking whether the app is compatible with the device, and updating Store apps through Library > Get updates. If those checks do not help, consider repairing, resetting, or reinstalling the affected app. Microsoft’s full sequence is in Fix problems with apps from Microsoft Store.
Repair or reset the affected app
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the app, open its menu, and select Advanced options.
- Select Repair if it is available.
- If Repair is unavailable or does not fix the issue, select Reset, if offered.

When an app is missing or installation is blocked
A cache reset cannot make an unavailable app listing appear or override an installation restriction. Microsoft lists possible causes such as country or region availability, family settings, an app being removed from the Store, device incompatibility, a restart needed after a recent Windows update, or device and account authorization. Check the relevant cause rather than repeatedly running wsreset.exe; Microsoft’s app availability and installation guidance covers these cases.
