In its words, “There really isn’t a way to reset the washing machine,” and a power cycle is “the closest you can get to a ‘reset’ of the washer” (Samsung US support). So when you search for how to reset your Samsung washing machine, the answer is to cut power, wait, and restore it. Two other procedures are often confused with a reset: a Wi-Fi network reset and Calibration mode. This guide covers all three and tells you when a reset is the wrong move.
Before you reset: note the error code
If a code is on the display, write it down first. Samsung warns that resetting can wipe stored error history that helps diagnose the fault (Samsung Canada). Work through the troubleshooting for that code first, unless that guidance specifically tells you to reset.

How to reset your Samsung washer (power cycle)
- Stop the cycle if one is running, and note any code on the display.
- Unplug the washer from the wall, or switch off the circuit breaker that feeds it.
- Wait. Samsung US says about 1–5 minutes; Samsung Canada’s guide says about one minute.
- Plug the washer back in or switch the breaker on, then power the washer on and start a cycle to see whether the problem is gone.
A power cycle can clear a minor glitch or a stored code. It does not repair whatever caused the problem. If the same fault or code comes back, stop repeating resets. Fix the underlying issue using the troubleshooting for that code, or arrange service. If your manual gives different timing or steps, follow the manual.

Three procedures people call a “reset”
| Procedure | Purpose | Model requirement | What it changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Power cycle | General reboot | All models | May clear minor glitches or stored codes; does not fix the cause |
| Wi-Fi/network reset | Fix connectivity problems | Wi-Fi-capable models only | Clears saved network settings only |
| Calibration | Run the machine’s calibration function | Only models that offer it | Not a factory reset |
How to reset Samsung washer Wi-Fi settings
Use this only if the washer is Wi-Fi capable and the problem is the connection. Samsung’s published sequence (Samsung Canada, page last updated July 2, 2026) is:
#1 Best Overall
- Press and hold Smart Control for about 3 seconds, until “AP” appears.
- Press and hold Temp for about 7 seconds, until “OK” appears. The display then returns to “AP”.
- Turn the washer off.
This erases stored network information, not your general operating settings. You will need to reconnect the washer to your network afterward. If your control panel is laid out differently, check the model manual.
Calibration is not a reset
Some Samsung washers have a Calibration mode and others do not. Where it is supported, Samsung’s US guidance says to empty the drum and use the Temp and Delay End buttons to start it (Samsung US). If your buttons or display don’t match, don’t improvise; use the exact procedure in your manual.

Samsung washer buttons won’t work
Before resetting, check two things:
- Child Lock: if it is active, the panel ignores presses.
- Moisture: damp on the control panel can stop it responding. Dry it.
If neither is the cause, Samsung suggests unplugging the washer for 60 seconds and trying again (Samsung US). If the panel is still unresponsive, contact Samsung support.
