To reset a Samsung soundbar, first identify its exact model: the button sequence varies by model and year. Find the model code on the type label on the back of the soundbar, then follow the reset instructions on the matching Samsung support page or in its manual. A factory reset restores settings to their defaults, so you will need to set them up again afterward.
Find your model before you press anything
Samsung’s reset directions cover soundbar families from 2013 through 2023, and the procedure, software behavior, and regional instructions can vary. The model and serial number are printed on the type label at the rear of the soundbar. Use the model code to locate the matching manual or Samsung support page; do not combine steps from different generations. Reset steps depend on the model
There is no single button sequence that applies to every Samsung soundbar. Recent models often use buttons on the soundbar itself, while some older models require the remote. Even when two models use the same buttons, the required power state, hold time, or completion signal may differ.
- Many 2021-and-later models: With the soundbar on, hold its + and – buttons together. The required duration and completion signal are model-specific.
- Some 2020 and older models: The instructions may call for a remote button such as Play/Pause, Settings/Sound Control, or Stop. Other models in these generations may use buttons on the soundbar.
- Certain HW-Q***D, HW-S***D, and HW-LS60D models: With the soundbar on, hold Volume – and Volume + together for more than five seconds. Samsung says Q models show “INIT”; listed models without a display signal reset with a white LED sweep, three cyan flashes, then a red flash and shutoff.
Samsung Brazil’s instructions give a specific sequence for some 2020 models that starts with the remote while the bar is off and continues with the soundbar’s + and – buttons. For 2021-or-newer models, that page specifies holding the soundbar’s + and – buttons for five seconds. Check the completion signal
Do not assume a reset worked based on a signal described for another soundbar. Depending on the model, Samsung documents messages such as “INIT” or “INIT OK,” LED patterns, or voice confirmation. Check the matching instructions for the expected signal. Samsung Colombia’s guide includes model-specific procedures and indicators.
Before resetting for no sound
A factory reset may not address a connection or source-selection problem. Before resetting, check that connected devices are powered on, the soundbar is set to the correct source, and cables or other connections are correctly attached. Samsung’s no-sound troubleshooting guidance recommends these checks and notes that a reset returns settings to default.

Before resetting for Bluetooth pairing trouble
First make sure the soundbar is in Bluetooth pairing mode and the device you are connecting is also in pairing mode. Check the soundbar’s firmware and try pairing another device to help isolate the problem. Samsung advises requesting service if no Bluetooth device can pair after these checks. Check for a relevant firmware update
For an issue affecting some soundbars, including 2023 Q-Series models, Samsung advises unplugging and reconnecting the soundbar before updating with SmartThings or USB. Its guidance identifies firmware v1004.0 or later as improved firmware for that issue. This is specific to the affected models and issue; it is not a general reset or update instruction for every Samsung soundbar. Check Samsung’s firmware guidance and update instructions.

If the documented reset does not work
Check the manual or support page for your exact model to confirm the required power state, controls, hold duration, and reset indicator. If you have followed those steps and the soundbar remains faulty, contact Samsung support or arrange service rather than trying a sequence intended for another model.
