There is no universal factory-reset shortcut for gaming keyboards. The right steps depend on the exact make and model, and a reset may erase onboard profiles, lighting effects, or other saved settings. Find the model name on the keyboard or its underside label, then follow its manufacturer’s instructions rather than trying a shortcut for a different keyboard.
Before you reset: confirm the model and what you want to restore
Check the keyboard’s underside label or its product documentation for the full model name. Reset procedures can differ even between models in the same product family, and a wired procedure may not apply to a wireless model.

Also decide whether you need a whole-device reset. If the problem is just one programmable button, a software setting, or a lighting effect, changing that setting may be enough. A full reset can remove onboard configurations. For example, CORSAIR says the K55 CORE reset erases onboard memory profiles, while Razer says its listed hard-reset procedure clears saved profiles and lighting configurations.
Reset instructions by manufacturer and model
CORSAIR keyboards
CORSAIR’s general reset guidance, updated June 23, 2026, gives different steps for different model groups. These are CORSAIR procedures, not universal keyboard shortcuts.

- K95 RGB Platinum and K95 RGB Platinum XT: Unplug the keyboard. Hold Esc while reconnecting it, and keep holding until it flashes. Unplug and reconnect it once more.
- K55 models covered by the general guidance: Unplug the keyboard. Hold Fn and F4 while reconnecting it. Release the keys after 10 seconds, when the keyboard should flash, and then update the firmware in iCUE. CORSAIR says the K55 Pro and K55 PRO XT instead use the ordinary Esc method.
- Other wired models covered by the general guidance: Hold Esc while reconnecting the keyboard and release after about five seconds.
- Wireless models covered by the general guidance: Turn the keyboard off. Hold Esc while turning it on, then release after about two to five seconds when the lighting flashes.
The K55 CORE has a separate instruction in its product manual: “Hold ESC key for two seconds while device is plugged in to erase onboard memory profiles and restore factory default settings.” Because that direction differs from the general K55 guidance, use the manual for your exact model rather than assuming all K55 keyboards reset alike. CORSAIR distinguishes software mode, where iCUE controls the keyboard, from hardware mode, which uses onboard profiles and settings when iCUE is not running or available. Razer keyboards
Razer’s procedure applies only to the Huntsman and BlackWidow models listed in its support article, updated August 22, 2026. Do not assume it works on every Razer keyboard.

- Close Razer Synapse and other peripheral software.
- Disconnect the keyboard’s USB cable. For a wireless model, turn it off and disconnect paired devices.
- Hold Left Ctrl and Esc while reconnecting the USB cable. Keep holding for about five seconds, then release.
- Wait for the keyboard to restart. Razer identifies the return to default lighting as an indication that the reset is complete.
Razer says this hard reset clears onboard settings, including saved profiles and lighting configurations. You can set them up again in Synapse and resave profiles where supported. Check the listed models and steps in Razer’s hard-reset instructions.
SteelSeries Apex 7 and Apex Pro Gen 3
For these two models, SteelSeries documents a reset through the keyboard’s OLED menu:

- Hold the media button below the scroll wheel until the OLED menu appears.
- Scroll to About and select it.
- Scroll to Factory Reset and select it.
- Choose Yes to confirm.

Logitech keyboards: distinguish a button reset from a device reset
Logitech’s cited G HUB instructions reset an individual programmable button, not the entire keyboard. In the relevant device assignment, choose USE DEFAULT to restore that button’s default assignment. DISABLE turns the button off and clears its programming.

For the Logitech Pro Gaming Keyboard, Logitech’s guidance describes changing lighting through Logitech Gaming Software (LGS): open LGS, select the keyboard, and click Lighting Settings to return to LGS profile lighting. The cited Logitech materials describe onboard lighting effects and stored lighting layouts, but do not establish a universal full-keyboard factory-reset procedure. A reset can restore settings, but it does not guarantee a hardware fault will be repaired. If keys still misbehave or the keyboard remains unresponsive, try the relevant manufacturer’s basic checks:

- Remove debris from affected keys and inspect the cable and connection.
- Connect the keyboard directly to the computer rather than through a hub, where applicable.
- Try another USB port or another computer to help distinguish a computer-side software problem from a keyboard problem.
- Check for available firmware updates in the manufacturer’s software or support instructions.
- If contacting support, provide the exact model and, where requested, the part number printed on the underside label.
CORSAIR recommends checking cleanliness, cables and ports, testing another system, and reviewing firmware. Why a shortcut from another keyboard may not work
Reset controls are not consistent across brands: one model may use a key combination while reconnecting, another may use an OLED menu, and a product manual may specify a different hold time from general family guidance. Software defaults can also affect only one button or lighting profile rather than restore the whole device. Use the instructions for the exact model and check which saved settings the reset removes before confirming it.
