What the setting changes
Opera describes Desktop site as a request for the desktop version of a website, and its instructions specify that the change applies to websites in the current tab. They do not establish a browser-wide default for other tabs.
Find the menu on phone and tablet layouts
The main menu button’s location depends on Opera’s layout: Opera’s Android FAQ says it appears at the bottom in phone layout and at the top in tablet layout. The help material does not confirm the precise Desktop site control position for every layout or app version. If you do not see the three-dot menu where expected, check the corresponding edge of the screen for your layout. See Opera’s FAQ for Opera for Android.

Using Opera Touch instead?
Opera Touch has a separate help page that also documents a Desktop site slider while browsing and says the request applies to websites in that tab. Its menu description differs, so use the instructions for the app you actually have rather than assuming its menu path matches Opera for Android. See Opera Touch’s Page view help page.
