Submit the request through that store’s official process as soon as practical, and stop launching or using the game if the platform’s rules make delivery or use relevant. An accidental purchase is not automatically refundable; eligibility depends on the store, transaction type, region, and what happened after purchase.
First, identify who billed the purchase
Check the receipt, order history, or payment descriptor to determine whether Apple, Google Play, a console store, Steam, or another retailer processed the charge. A game may offer more than one way to buy items, so do not assume the publisher handled the payment. For real-money digital purchases, Activision, for example, directs customers to the retailer rather than Activision Support; that is an Activision policy, not a rule for every publisher. Activision’s purchase guidance explains its distinction between real-money purchases and items bought with in-game currency.

If you used in-game currency rather than being charged real money, check the game publisher’s official support policy. The refund route and eligibility can differ. Keep the receipt or transaction reference, item name, purchase date, amount, and the account used available for the form.
Use the refund route for the store that charged you

Apple
Sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com, choose “Request a refund,” select the reason, choose the app or item, and submit. Apple says some purchases may be eligible, not that every accidental purchase qualifies. You can check request status; Apple says to allow 24–48 hours for an update, and an approved refund may take additional time to return. If the purchase does not appear, check the receipt and the Apple Account used. If the charge is pending, wait until it is no longer pending before using this process. In some regions, digital purchases may be billed by a different merchant, so follow the receipt rather than assuming Apple processed it. Apple’s refund guidance covers the request and status process.

Google Play
For an app, game, or in-app purchase, Google says a refund request within 48 hours may be possible depending on the purchase details; it is not a guarantee of approval. After 48 hours, Google directs you to contact the developer to troubleshoot and ask whether it can refund under its policy and applicable law. Google Play’s refund guidance explains the timing and developer route.
If someone you know, such as a family member, made the purchase using your account, request a refund as an accidental purchase. If neither you nor anyone you know made the charge, use Google’s unauthorized-charge reporting process instead. Google says to report an unauthorized charge within 120 days. Do not describe a known family-member purchase as fraud. Sharing account credentials or failing to protect the account can affect refund eligibility. PlayStation Store
The cited PlayStation consumables rules are for the US. They require the request to be within 14 days, the item to have been bought in PlayStation Store, and the game not to have been launched after the purchase. Launching can deliver items bought outside gameplay; items bought in-game are delivered immediately. Once delivered, a consumable is generally not eligible unless it is faulty. Start in Transaction History and select “Request Refund.” If self-service does not work, contact PlayStation Support or use its online assistant. Local law may provide additional rights. Nintendo’s cited pages cover the US/Americas. Its published ordinary policy says payments for digital products are final and non-refundable except as Nintendo authorizes or applicable law requires. For mistaken purchases of downloaded games or DLC, Nintendo Support says, “We are unable to provide refunds or exchanges for mistaken purchases.” Contact Nintendo Support about your specific circumstances, but do not assume a refund will be approved.

Steam
Sign in to Steam Help, open Purchases, select the transaction, choose the problem, then select “I’d like to request a refund” and submit the form. Valve’s general rule for a title is that the request be made within 14 days of purchase and the title have less than two hours of playtime. The cited guidance does not establish that every in-game transaction follows those same criteria. You can still submit a request outside the general rules for review. See Steam’s refund instructions.
Submit a clear request and track it
- Stop playing if use or delivery could affect eligibility. In particular, the cited PlayStation US consumables policy makes launching the game after purchase relevant.
- Match the charge to the right account and merchant. Use the receipt or transaction history; check which Apple Account or store account made the purchase.
- Submit through the merchant’s official refund workflow promptly. State that the purchase was accidental and provide the account, item, date, amount, and order or transaction reference when requested.
- Check the request status with the same provider. Follow any request for further information. For Google Play purchases more than 48 hours old, contact the developer as Google directs.
- If declined, read the stated reason and use the official support or appeal route. Keep the receipt and relevant account details. A store’s policy does not settle every legal right you may have under local law.
When the charge was not actually accidental
If no one who is authorized to use the account made the purchase, use the store’s unauthorized-charge or account-security process, not the accidental-purchase explanation. For Google Play, the cited guidance sets a 120-day reporting period for charges made by someone unknown to you. A purchase made by a friend or family member with your account is treated differently in Google’s guidance and should be reported as an accidental purchase.
