To request a Google Play refund, sign in to the Google Account that made the purchase, open Payments & subscriptions → Budget & order history, find the order, and choose Report a problem. Select the reason that best fits, explain that you want a refund, and submit the form. Google does not guarantee approval, and the right route depends on what you bought, when you bought it, and whether the charge was authorized.
Submit a refund request
- Sign in to the Google Account used to make the purchase and open Google Play on the web.
- Open the profile menu and select Payments & subscriptions → Budget & order history.
- Find the transaction and select Report a problem.
- Choose the reason that most accurately describes what happened. Explain that you are requesting a refund, complete the form, and submit it.
You can also use Google’s self-service refund request workflow. Google says it usually sends a decision within one day, but it can take up to four days. Sending repeated requests for the same transaction will not speed up the decision. See Google’s refund request instructions.

If you cannot find the order
Check whether another Google Account you use made the purchase, then look at that account’s order history. The refund request must be associated with the account that placed the order.

Google says, “Google doesn’t give refunds for most Google Play purchases.” Eligibility depends on the product, purchase details, and your location; submitting a request is not a promise of approval. Google’s policy for apps, games, and in-app purchases distinguishes requests made within 48 hours from later requests.

A paid app may be eligible for a refund shortly after its first purchase. If refunded, it is uninstalled. Google permits a return of an app or game only once; buying it again removes that option. If a transaction included multiple items, Google says the whole purchase must be refunded rather than selected items alone. What to do about an unauthorized or accidental charge
Someone you know made the purchase
If a friend or family member used your account and bought something by mistake, request a refund through the normal order-history process. An unauthorized-charge report is for a charge made by neither the account holder nor anyone they know.

No one you know made the charge
Report the transaction to Google as unauthorized within 120 days of the transaction. Use the guidance in Google Play’s refund policy help to identify the correct reporting route.

After Google approves a refund
An approved refund is returned to the original payment method. The decision and the arrival of the money are separate steps: payment processing times vary by method and country, and Google’s published figures are estimates rather than guarantees.

These are examples from Google’s refund timeline guidance, not a complete list; timings and available payment methods differ by country. If the credit has not appeared, check the refund status. A “Refunded” status means to look for the credit on the original payment method; “Cancelled” means the order was never charged.

Refund rights and routes can vary by country and product. If you are in the EEA or UK and the purchase was made on or after March 28, 2018, consult Google’s region-specific refund guidance. It addresses purchases that are faulty or do not match their Play description, with distinct handling for digital content and digital services; its rules should not be applied globally.

Google has separate policies for categories including books, gifts, Play balance, TV, and subscriptions. Hardware purchased from Google Store uses the Google Store returns process, not the Google Play purchase flow. Start with Google’s refund policy overview to identify the policy for your item.
