Start with the store that charged you: find the game in that account’s purchase history and submit a request through that seller’s official refund process. Whether you qualify depends on the storefront, your region, when you bought the game, whether you downloaded or played it, and whether you’re reporting a fault or simply changing your mind.
1. Identify the seller and the type of problem
Check your payment statement, purchase receipt, and the account used to buy the game. A PlayStation Store, Xbox/Microsoft Store, Steam, or Nintendo eShop purchase must be handled under that store’s rules. If you bought the game from a third-party retailer or directly from a publisher, use that seller’s refund policy instead.

Be clear about what happened: a change of mind, a fault with the game, or a charge you do not recognize are different situations. The storefront policies below address refunds and faulty content in varying ways; they do not establish a general procedure for unauthorized charges. Don’t describe an unfamiliar charge as a change-of-mind request—first verify who charged you and which account made the purchase.
2. Find the transaction and check the conditions
- Sign in to the account that made the purchase and open its order or transaction history.
- Locate the exact game, add-on, in-game item, or bundle. Check its purchase date and whether the game was downloaded, streamed, or played.
- Compare those details with the policy for the store and region where you bought it. The examples below are store-specific, not a shared industry rule.

A fighting game is not a special refund category in these policies. The store may instead treat the purchase as a game, add-on, consumable, subscription, or bundle, each with potentially different terms. A 14-day period is not a universal deadline: the trigger and any usage conditions differ by store.

3. Submit the request through the store’s official flow
PlayStation Store
PlayStation’s support instructions direct users to the transaction’s Order Details. For an eligible purchase, the instructions describe a Cancel Purchase option. The linked instructions are for Spain and are in Spanish, so use the support page for your own region if its steps or labels differ: PlayStation refund request instructions.
Steam
Open Valve’s Steam Refunds page while signed in and follow the request flow for the purchase. Include the correct game and reason; Valve says requests outside the standard time and playtime conditions may be reviewed, but that is not a guarantee of approval.

For an app or game bought through Microsoft Store, follow Microsoft Support’s refund instructions, which route app and game requests through Xbox support. Eligibility remains subject to the applicable policy and law.

Review Nintendo of America’s digital product refund policy and contact Nintendo through its official support channel for your region if you believe an exception or legal right applies. The US policy does not promise a refund for an ordinary change of mind.

4. Explain the request accurately
State whether you are asking because you changed your mind or because the game does not work as represented or has a technical fault. For a fault, describe what happens, when it occurs, and any error message. Add relevant screenshots or other evidence if the form permits and you have them. Avoid claiming a specific legal entitlement unless you have confirmed it applies in your jurisdiction.
If the issue is an unrecognized or unauthorized charge, do not file it as a routine refund without checking the account and seller. The policies cited here do not provide enough detail to set out a universal process for unauthorized charges or bank disputes; follow the seller’s account-security and billing guidance for your region.

5. If the request is denied
Read the reason for the decision and compare it with the terms for your store, region, purchase type, and usage. If you think the decision overlooks a fault or a right under local law, reply through the official support channel with the relevant details, or consult an official consumer-protection source for your jurisdiction. Store policy may not describe every legal right.
