You can ask the retailer or carrier about the specific shipment, and use its delivery-instructions field to request a safe alternative location or a pickup option—but those choices change where or how a parcel is delivered, not necessarily whether a photo is taken.
How do I request a delivery without a doorstep photo?
- Identify the last-mile carrier. Check the retailer’s order details or tracking page. A retailer’s own delivery network and an outside carrier may offer different controls.
- Open the shipment’s delivery options. Look for delivery instructions, delivery preferences, or proof-of-delivery information. The feature may be described as “Photo-on-Delivery” or “picture proof of delivery.”
- Request the arrangement you want. If available, specify a safe, less visible place or choose a supported hold or pickup option. These are requests about delivery location or receipt, not confirmed photo opt-outs.
- Ask the carrier or retailer directly about photo suppression. Give customer service the tracking or order number and ask whether an option applies to that shipment. Do not rely on a location note such as “leave at back door” to prevent a photo.
Check the shipment’s eligibility and restrictions before selecting an option. A safe location must be accessible to the driver, and some parcels may require a signature or eligible recipient.

Options by retailer or carrier
Amazon
For an Amazon order, open its delivery details or the saved address instructions and enter a clear request for a safe preferred spot. Amazon’s package-theft guidance describes choosing a spot out of view and explains Photo-on-Delivery as visual confirmation of arrival. Its missing-package help advises customers to check delivery information, including photos, and contact support for Amazon-shipped orders. These pages do not document a recipient-facing control that guarantees photo capture can be disabled. If a photo itself is the concern, ask Amazon Customer Service whether any choice is available for the order.
FedEx
Use tracking or FedEx Delivery Manager to check the options for the shipment. FedEx describes picture proof of delivery for residential deliveries in the U.S. and Canada; its U.S. Delivery Manager users can request a specific leave location and receive a delivery-photo notification. If a safe delivery or eligible recipient is unavailable, certain packages may be held or redirected to a FedEx or participating retail location. FedEx does not say these location, hold, or redirect options turn off photos. See its Picture Proof of Delivery page and missed-delivery guidance.

UPS
Check the tracking page or UPS My Choice for options on the specific parcel. UPS says delivery photos may be available in a confirmation email, notifications, tracking, or the My Choice dashboard. Some shipments permit digital release without an in-person signature, but shipments requiring an adult signature cannot be released this way; other shipment restrictions also apply. UPS Access Point pickup may be available. These options affect release or pickup, not necessarily photo capture. See UPS Tracking Support and UPS guidance on signature-required deliveries.
USPS
USPS proof-of-delivery procedures are not the same as a consumer setting to disable a doorstep photo. For eligible mailpieces, USPS says proof of delivery can be requested through USPS Tracking. Check the mail class and tracking details, or contact USPS about handling options for the item. See What is Proof of Delivery?

Choose a safe location or pickup option
If your main concern is an unattended parcel or a visible drop-off, a permitted alternate location or carrier hold may help. Consider these checks before changing the delivery:
- Eligibility: Confirm the carrier offers the choice for this parcel and service.
- Access and safety: Choose a place the driver can reach safely and that is genuinely less exposed. A parcel box is one possible designated location, but check that the carrier can access it and that it fits the package.
- Recipient requirements: Check whether the shipment requires a signature or adult recipient; that can rule out unattended delivery or digital release.
- Photo policy: Ask whether the carrier says a photo will still be generated. A different drop location alone does not establish that it will be omitted.
- Pickup terms: If choosing a hold or pickup location, verify the parcel is eligible and review the carrier’s instructions for collecting it.
Carrier rules and available choices vary by shipment and location. FedEx’s photo information covers U.S. and Canada residential deliveries, while some of its described delivery preferences are specifically for U.S. users; do not assume those details apply in other countries.
