Use the chatbot’s own feedback or report menu on the exact message whenever it is available. Select the safety, offensive-content, abuse, or legal reason that best fits, explain the risk briefly, and check what conversation data or attachments will be sent before submitting. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini Apps, and Gemini in Workspace use different routes, so follow the instructions for the product and account you are using.
What counts as an unsafe or harmful chatbot response?
A response can be worth reporting when it encourages violence or self-harm, provides dangerous instructions, targets a protected group, exposes personal information, facilitates fraud or illegal activity, sexual exploitation, or another serious abuse. A wrong answer is not automatically a safety violation. For example, an incorrect travel fact is generally a quality problem; instructions for making a weapon, a threatening message aimed at a person, or advice that could cause immediate medical harm needs a safety or abuse report.

Use the narrowest accurate category. A provider’s safety team needs to see what the model actually produced and why it creates a risk. Do not edit the answer into something more extreme before submitting it. Preserve the original wording, the prompt that led to it, and any relevant conversation context.

Should I use feedback or report abuse?
Most services offer at least two kinds of reporting. The labels differ, but the distinction is consistent:

Do not use an intellectual-property form for a general safety complaint. OpenAI, for example, separates its safety or legal concern option from intellectual-property reporting; use an IP form only when the concern is copyright, trademark, or counterfeit material.
If the answer is merely inaccurate or inappropriate, ordinary feedback may be the right choice. Google says Gemini Apps can produce inaccurate, offensive, or inappropriate information and advises users to check responses rather than rely on Gemini for medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice.
How do I report an unsafe ChatGPT response?
Report the message in ChatGPT on web or mobile
- Open the conversation containing the concerning answer.
- Find the specific response and select the thumbs-down control below it.
- Choose Select an issue.
- Select Safety or Legal concern.
- Follow the prompts and submit the report. Include a concise description of what makes the answer harmful and enough surrounding context to understand how it occurred.
The control is attached to the response, so report the exact message rather than giving a broad complaint about the chatbot. Interface placement can change between web, iOS, and Android; if the control is missing, use OpenAI’s official content-reporting webform instead.

OpenAI also provides a reporting webform for covered conversations, shared links, GPTs, and forum posts that may violate its Terms of Use or applicable law. Use that form when an in-product option is unavailable or when the content type is one of those covered by the form. The form is a separate route from an intellectual-property complaint.
Before submitting, identify the conversation or shared item, quote or preserve the exact response, and state the safety or legal concern in plain language. The reporting instructions explain how to submit a concern; they do not promise removal, a response time, or a particular enforcement result.

How can I report a harmful Claude answer?
Report a safety issue by email
- Preserve the exact Claude output and the prompt or preceding turns needed to reproduce it.
- Email [email protected].
- Describe the harmful behavior, why it creates a safety risk, and the steps that produced it.
- Include enough detail for Anthropic to reproduce the issue, but avoid adding unrelated personal information.
Anthropic’s Claude Help Center directs users to this address for safety issues. A reproducible report is more useful than a general statement such as the answer was bad: note the model or product surface if shown, the prompt, the relevant output, and whether the behavior repeats.
Report content in a shared Claude conversation
For content inside a shared Claude conversation, use Anthropic’s standalone reporting form. Focus the submission on the concerning output and the context necessary to understand it. A shared conversation may contain information from other people, so review what you are forwarding and remove unrelated sensitive material when the form permits.
Anthropic’s published route describes how to send a report, not a guaranteed review period, takedown, or outcome.
Where is the report button in Gemini?
Gemini Apps: report an individual response
- Open the Gemini Apps conversation and locate the response.
- Select Bad response, shown as the thumbs-down control.
- Choose the reason that best fits, such as Offensive / Unsafe.
- Add concise feedback explaining the harm or risk.
- Review the submission details and select the control to send the report.
Google distinguishes this response-level feedback from a legal complaint. If the issue is a legal matter, choose Report legal issue and follow that process instead. For a broader Gemini Apps problem, the web app provides Settings & help → Send feedback; mobile menus can vary by operating system and app version.
Gemini in Workspace apps: use Report abuse
- In the Workspace app, find the Gemini answer that concerns you.
- Select Report abuse beside the answer. If it is not visible, open More options.
- Choose the applicable reason and submit.
Google separates Report abuse from general quality feedback, which uses Good suggestion or Bad suggestion controls. Use abuse reporting for spam, fraud, illegal content, or another policy concern; use the suggestion controls when the answer is simply inaccurate or unhelpful.

Will my conversation be sent with my report?
Possibly. Google explicitly says Gemini feedback can include the associated conversation, including prompts and Gemini responses. Depending on the product and what was used in the conversation, the submission may also include uploaded files or images and personal content Gemini obtained through Connected Apps. In Workspace abuse reports, Google says the conversation, prompts, context documents or emails, and Gemini response are included.

That means a report may transmit more than the single answer visible on screen. Before you select submit:
- Read the confirmation screen and any disclosure about attached conversation history.
- Check whether files, images, emails, documents, or Connected Apps data are listed.
- Remove unrelated sensitive information when the interface allows you to edit the material.
- Do not paste passwords, authentication codes, financial account numbers, or another person’s private data into a report.
- Review the provider’s applicable privacy terms, especially when the conversation involves a work or school account.
Google notes that work or school accounts may limit the ability to add feedback or attachments. If the report controls are unavailable, your organization’s administrator may control the available route.
What makes a useful safety report?
A strong report is specific, compact, and reproducible. Include:
- The exact response: preserve the wording, formatting, and any links or generated media that matter.
- The triggering prompt: include the user message and only the earlier turns needed to understand the behavior.
- The risk: state what could happen, who could be harmed, or which policy or legal concern appears relevant.
- Reproduction details: note the product surface, account type if relevant, and whether repeating the prompt produces the same result.
- Timing and changes: record when you saw it and whether editing the prompt, starting a new chat, or changing a setting affected the output.
Use neutral wording. For example: “After I asked for defensive information, the response gave step-by-step instructions to bypass a building’s alarm and suggested targets.” This is more actionable than “The bot is dangerous.” Do not exaggerate the result or claim that a provider violated a law unless you can explain the basis.

What not to include
- Unrelated private conversation history.
- Personal identifiers that are not needed to understand the incident.
- Secrets such as passwords, API keys, recovery codes, or private encryption keys.
- Repeated submissions of the same report unless new evidence materially changes it.
If the provider’s form automatically attaches a full conversation, check that history before sending. You may need to start a clean conversation or use a different support route if the attached material is too sensitive to share.
What if the chatbot response creates immediate danger?
A chatbot report is not an emergency service. If someone faces immediate danger, contact local emergency services or another appropriate crisis response in your area. For urgent medical, legal, financial, or other real-world decisions, contact a qualified professional. You can report the chatbot afterward, but do not wait for a provider to review a submission before taking necessary protective action.
If the response contains a credible threat against a person, preserve evidence without provoking further interaction. Save the conversation or screenshots if it is safe and lawful to do so, and give the relevant information to emergency responders or law enforcement when appropriate. The chatbot provider’s feedback form is not a substitute for those channels.

These routes are product-specific. They do not establish a universal process for every chatbot, enterprise edition, country, or device. If your provider is not listed, look for a report or feedback control on the exact response first, then use the provider’s current help or trust-and-safety channel. Do not assume that a route for one product works for another product from the same company.
What happens after I submit a report?
The published instructions for these services explain how to submit concerns, but they do not guarantee that content will be removed, that a human will reply, that a report is anonymous, or that it will be reviewed within a stated period. Treat the submission as a request for the provider to assess the content, not as proof that a particular enforcement action will occur.
Keep your own record if the issue matters: note the date, product, conversation identifier or share link when available, the exact output, and the route used. Do not repeatedly contact multiple channels with conflicting descriptions; send a clear update if you discover new evidence or an ongoing risk.
Quick checklist before you click Submit
- Is this a safety, abuse, or legal issue, or only a quality problem?
- Am I reporting the exact response rather than a paraphrase?
- Have I included the prompt and context needed to reproduce it?
- Have I described the concrete harm or risk in one or two sentences?
- Did I inspect what conversation history, files, images, emails, documents, or Connected Apps data will be attached?
- Did I remove unrelated secrets and personal information where possible?
- If anyone is in immediate danger, have I contacted emergency or professional help instead of waiting for chatbot support?
Frequently asked questions
Can I report an answer that is wrong but not dangerous?
Yes. Use ordinary feedback, such as a bad-response or bad-suggestion control, when the issue is accuracy, relevance, tone, or usefulness without a clear safety or policy concern. Google specifically advises checking Gemini outputs because they can be inaccurate or inappropriate.
Should I report the prompt or the answer?
Report the answer that creates the concern and include the prompt or earlier turns needed to explain how it was produced. The output is the primary evidence; the surrounding context makes the report reproducible.

Yes. OpenAI provides a content-reporting route for covered shared links, and Anthropic provides a standalone form for content in a shared Claude conversation. Use the route designed for the shared item rather than reporting an unrelated private chat.
Are reports anonymous?
The cited provider instructions do not promise anonymity. Assume that information associated with your account and the submitted conversation may be processed under the provider’s privacy terms. Review the form’s disclosure before sending.
What if the report button is missing?
Check the message’s More options menu, update or reopen the app, and consult the provider’s current help page. ChatGPT offers a webform for covered content, Claude lists an email route for safety issues, and Gemini Apps provides Settings & help → Send feedback on the web app. Account type, device, region, and product version can change what you see.
Will reporting stop the chatbot from giving the answer to someone else?
There is no published guarantee in these reporting instructions that a submission will cause a takedown, model change, account action, or any other specific result. Report the issue clearly, and take immediate real-world safety steps separately when needed.
