Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesStart with the ad’s own options: look for AdChoices, More, Info, a three-dot menu, or a report/feedback control. If it is a Google-served ad in a partner app, use AdChoices → “Why this ad?” → “Report ad”, choose a reason, and submit. Other ad networks may use different controls, and reporting an ad does not automatically block or remove it.
Report the ad from its own options
- Open the ad’s menu without tapping through to the advertiser. Look for AdChoices, More, Info, a three-dot menu, or a report or feedback option on the ad. For Google-served ads, AdChoices and the ad options can help identify Google’s route.
- If the ad is served by Google, choose the report option. Tap AdChoices → “Why this ad?” → “Report ad”, select the closest reason, complete any requested details, and submit. Google advises leaving prefilled fields unchanged. Its documented flow is for Google-served ads in partner apps, not every mobile ad. See Google’s Report an ad instructions.
- Keep the confirmation. Google says it emails confirmation that it received a report and that its Trust & Safety team reviews it. That is not a guarantee that the ad will be removed or an assurance of a particular response time.
If there is no report button
Not every app uses Google’s ad technology, and Google’s reporting steps do not cover ads served by other companies. Try the ad’s own feedback or reporting menu. If you cannot tell which network served it, contact the app’s help or support team and ask where to report the specific ad. Google notes that reporting options are often available in the relevant product or service itself; see its Appeal and Reporting Tools.

If your immediate goal is to stop seeing an ad, use a block or mute option if the ad or app provides one. Reporting and blocking are separate actions: Google explicitly says, “Reporting an ad doesn’t block that ad.”

| Route | What it addresses | Who receives it | Does it block the ad? | Scope |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ad’s report control | A specific ad | The ad provider or network | Not necessarily; Google reports do not block the ad | Depends on the provider |
| App support or developer contact | A specific ad when the serving network or reporting route is unclear | The app’s support team or developer | Not established | The app you are using |
| App-store reporting | The app itself, if it is inappropriate or violates store policy | The relevant app store | Does not report a particular ad to its ad network | The store and its policies |
| Regulator or other official channel | A possible legal or consumer-protection issue | The relevant authority | Not established | Depends on your location and the alleged violation |
Google lists its Google Ads policy reporting and reporting an inappropriate Google Play app as different matters. Use an app-store report when the app itself is the problem; it is not a substitute for reporting a particular creative to the ad provider.

When might an ad be inappropriate?
Rules depend on the platform, service and location. Google Play policy says ads and their associated offers shown in an app must be appropriate for that app’s content rating. Its examples include ads for content or promoted apps rated too mature for the host app, as well as ads that imitate app or system interfaces, disrupt app use, lack a clear way to dismiss them, use a false close button, appear outside the app that served them, or interrupt the device’s normal exit flow. These are Google Play policy examples, not a universal legal standard.
Apple’s cited advertising policy concerns Apple Advertising Services, not every ad displayed in an iOS app. It requires compliance with applicable law and lists prohibited categories including discriminatory, defamatory, profane or obscene, adult, controlled-substance, weapons, and deceptive content. The policy was last updated February 26, 2025; it does not set out a universal consumer workflow for reporting third-party ads inside apps.

For US context, the FTC’s guidance for app businesses says marketers should tell the truth and clearly disclose important information. It does not establish one reporting process for individual users. The appropriate official channel depends on the location and the kind of conduct involved.
