Explain what is wrong or harmful. Identify the specific claim, why it is inaccurate or misleading, what context is missing, and—if you can—what a correct answer should say. Google recommends providing details. Its feedback submission includes your most recent search query and its Search results, so make the explanation itself clear. Google’s Search Help instructions describe the feedback options.
-
Submit the report. If the matter is important, keep your own note of the query, date, overview wording, and any visible cited sources. Do not include private or confidential information unless it is necessary.

Google says AI Overviews can make mistakes and invites feedback about unhelpful, inaccurate, biased, or otherwise problematic overviews. The feedback route is intended to help improve the feature; Google does not promise that a particular overview will be corrected or removed, or that you will receive a personal reply.

Choose between feedback and a legal or policy report
Use the built-in feedback flow for problems with the overview’s quality, such as an incorrect claim or biased presentation. Use Google’s Report Content On Google tool when you are seeking removal or restriction on a legal or Google content- or product-policy ground. The tool lists Google Search and AI Overviews as content to report and provides separate policy and legal reason paths.
| Route | Use it for | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| AI Overview feedback | Inaccuracy, bias, unhelpful content, or another problem with the overview | That Google will change or remove the overview, or reply to you personally |
| Google Legal Help | A request based on a legal ground or Google content/product policy | That one report covers every Google product where the content appears, or that the same legal outcome applies in every region |
Choose a legal category only if it genuinely fits the issue; the tool includes grounds such as defamation and intellectual-property matters. Google says legal standards vary by country or region. It typically restricts access where content is deemed illegal; for content that violates its policies or Terms of Service, it may restrict or remove access globally. Google also says to submit a separate report for each Google product where the content appears. A policy report is not a substitute for legal notice.
This is reporting guidance, not a determination that any particular overview is unlawful or defamatory. The applicable requirements and remedies depend on the facts and jurisdiction.

If the overview affects your website or business
You can report the problematic overview through the same feedback control, but Google’s documented reporting routes do not give site owners a control to edit a generated overview directly. Describe the precise statement and its impact, and provide a concise factual correction where possible. If you are asking for removal on a legal or policy basis, use the legal reporting route rather than treating ordinary feedback as a legal notice.
