How to Report a Privacy or Security Concern to OpenAI

OpenAI has separate routes for privacy violations in content, personal-data rights requests, and technical security vulnerabilities. Here’s where to submit each.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use the route that matches the issue: report private information or other problematic content through OpenAI’s Report Content form; request access to, deletion of, or correction to your own personal data through the Privacy Portal or by emailing [email protected]; and report a technical vulnerability or security incident under OpenAI’s Coordinated Vulnerability Disclosure policy.

Choose the right OpenAI reporting route

What happened Where to report it
Content on an OpenAI product exposes private information or otherwise raises a privacy concern Report Content form, or the applicable in-product reporting option
You want to access, delete, or correct personal information about yourself OpenAI’s Privacy Portal or [email protected]; the 2026 privacy-rights report also lists [email protected] and direct in-product requests for access, deletion, and correction
You found a technical vulnerability or have a security incident to report Follow the Coordinated Vulnerability Disclosure policy
The concern is model behavior, such as a jailbreak, hallucination, or policy bypass Use OpenAI’s dedicated safety channels, not the vulnerability policy

Report a privacy violation in content

Open the Report Content form and select “Privacy violation” as the reason. Describe what is wrong and include a direct URL to the content when available. The form accepts an optional screenshot and asks you to attest that your submission is truthful, accurate, and complete. OpenAI says reports submitted through the form are confidential to the reporter and OpenAI. Share only information relevant to locating and assessing the concern.

Request access to, deletion of, or correction to your personal data

A request about your own personal information is different from reporting content that exposes private information. For an access, deletion, or correction request, use OpenAI’s Privacy Portal or email [email protected], the routes listed in its consumer data FAQ. OpenAI’s 2026 privacy-rights report also lists [email protected] and direct in-product requests for these rights.

OpenAI’s 2026 report says it received 5,986,331 global data-access requests in 2025, with an average response time of less than four days; 6,705,206 deletion requests, averaging less than three days; and 351,297 correction requests, averaging less than two days. These are historical global averages reported by OpenAI for 2025, not promised timelines for an individual request.

Report a technical vulnerability or security incident

Use OpenAI’s Coordinated Vulnerability Disclosure policy for a technical vulnerability or security incident. The policy covers technical vulnerabilities that could reasonably compromise confidentiality, integrity, or availability. For security incidents, it directs reporters to submit an encrypted report; vulnerability researchers should follow the policy’s instructions for the Bug Bounty Program. The accompanying Help Center guidance explains testing authorization, scope, and secure communication, so read the policy before testing or disclosing a finding.

OpenAI asks reporters not to publicize vulnerability details while a fix is underway. It says it aims to acknowledge receipt within three business days; this is an aim, not a guaranteed response or resolution time.

Model behavior and safety reports are a different category

OpenAI’s CVE Assignment Policy says: “AI model safety vulnerabilities which include behavior or content (prompt ‘jailbreaks,’ model hallucinations, policy bypasses, etc) are not within scope of this policy.” Those issues should go through dedicated safety channels rather than the technical vulnerability process.
