Check OpenAI’s published official links, report the suspicious content through OpenAI’s reporting form, and take immediate steps to secure any password, API key, or payment details you already shared. The right reporting route depends on whether you found a suspicious site, content inside ChatGPT, a counterfeit listing, or unauthorized account activity.
First, stop interacting and save the details
Close the suspicious page or app and do not enter more information, download files, or follow further instructions from it. Keep the URL or app-store listing, screenshots, any message that led you there, and the approximate time you encountered it. These details can help you describe what happened in a report; they are practical preparation, not a special OpenAI evidence requirement.

Check whether the app or website is genuine
Use OpenAI’s own Verifying Communications from OpenAI page to check its published websites, support site, social accounts, email domains, and direct app-store links. A familiar name or logo alone does not establish that an app, site, or message is genuine. OpenAI specifically says: “Never share your account login details over social media.”

Choose the reporting route that fits what you found

OpenAI says submitted domains or content may be reviewed and mitigations may be applied, but a report does not guarantee that a site or listing will be removed or that you will receive a response by a particular time. A report to OpenAI also does not replace an account-security report or a report to an app marketplace where those apply.

If you entered your password or lost account access
- Change the password for the affected OpenAI account. If you sign in through Google or Microsoft, change the password with that provider instead.
- Log out active sessions to reduce the chance that someone who obtained your credentials can keep using the account.
- Report unauthorized activity through OpenAI’s fraud or suspicious activity guidance. If you cannot access the account, use the support route provided there.
- Change reused passwords elsewhere. If you used the same password on other services, replace it there with a unique one.
If an API key may have been exposed
Revoke or rotate the exposed key in the relevant OpenAI platform account, then review activity for anything you do not recognize. Report suspicious activity using OpenAI’s fraud or suspicious activity instructions. Changing an account password does not invalidate an exposed API key; treat the key as a separate credential.

Check the invoice and billing details to identify the charge. If it appears unauthorized, report it to OpenAI using its instructions for fraudulent ChatGPT or API credit purchase charges and promptly contact your bank or card issuer. OpenAI’s charge-reporting guidance does not guarantee a refund, so raise the issue with the payment provider as well.
