That changes the playlist—not the uploaded video or its URL. If “24/7 playlist” means a continuous live broadcast assembled by an encoder or streaming service, change the queue in the system supplying that broadcast; a YouTube playlist edit is not documented as changing an encoder’s queue.
First identify what is actually running
A YouTube playlist is a collection of videos viewers can play in sequence. A 24/7 live broadcast is a separate feed, often assembled by an encoder or another streaming system. YouTube documents playlist editing separately from live-stream settings, and does not say that editing a playlist changes a running encoder’s media queue. That distinction follows from the separate documentation; encoder behavior depends on the system in use.

- Viewers are playing a regular YouTube playlist: make the change to the playlist in YouTube.
- Your channel is broadcasting continuously through an encoder or streaming service: identify that system and update its playback queue. Do not assume a playlist edit will change the active feed.
Replace an entry in a YouTube playlist
For a one-off edit on desktop, add the replacement entry and remove the old one. YouTube’s documentation does not promise that these separate edits form an atomic swap, reach every viewer immediately, or prevent interruptions for people already watching.

- Sign in to YouTube Studio and open Content → Playlists.
- Open the target playlist on YouTube.
- Add the replacement video. YouTube allows adding a video from search, by URL, or from your library.
- On the old entry, open its item menu and choose Remove from .
- Drag playlist entries into the order you want.
If the playlist is being watched while you edit, do not rely on an immediate, uninterrupted change for every viewer. The documented workflow explains how to edit membership and order, but does not specify how or when an edit affects an already-playing session.

Can you replace an uploaded video and keep its URL?
No. YouTube Help states, “You can’t replace a video. Any new video you upload to YouTube will get a new URL.” You can modify the existing upload or direct viewers to an updated version with a card, but uploading a corrected version does not preserve the original video URL. YouTube Help: Replace or delete your video.
Automate playlist changes with the YouTube Data API
For repeated or scripted changes, YouTube Data API v3 treats a playlist entry and the video it points to as different resources. The playlist-item ID identifies the entry in the playlist; it is not the video ID. API write operations require OAuth 2.0 authorization.

- List the playlist’s items and identify the old entry’s playlist-item ID.
- Insert the replacement video as a playlist item with
playlistItems.insert. - Delete the old entry using its playlist-item ID with
playlistItems.delete. - If needed, set the desired order with
playlistItems.update.
Because insertion and deletion are separate operations, this is not a single atomic replacement. Check the playlist after both writes to confirm its membership and order. See the YouTube Data API playlistItems reference.
If the video is part of a continuous live broadcast
First find out what supplies the live feed: an encoder on a computer, a hosted streaming service, or another playback system. YouTube’s live-stream guidance covers encoder and mobile streams, including stream settings and stream keys, but does not document how a third-party encoder chooses or updates its playback queue. Make the replacement in the system that queues the media for the feed, and consult that system’s instructions. A YouTube playlist edit alone is not an established way to change that queue.
