Instead, map each task to the right Microsoft Copilot feature: use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Agents for in-app file work, Copilot Workflows for supported Microsoft 365 automations, and Copilot connectors to find organizational information held in connected systems. One important distinction: selected Copilot experiences can use Claude models, so moving work into Microsoft’s interface does not necessarily mean eliminating Anthropic models.
Choose a Microsoft 365 replacement for each Claude task

| Claude task | Microsoft 365 option to evaluate | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Draft or revise a document | Word Agent or Copilot in Word | Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Agents require a paid Microsoft 365 Copilot license and Anthropic models enabled for the tenant. Confirm the agent is available to the user. Microsoft’s agent guidance describes prerequisites and access. |
| Analyze spreadsheet data or create a workbook | Excel Agent or Copilot in Excel | Give it the relevant files and a clear expected result, then verify calculations and generated content yourself. The same license and model prerequisites apply. Microsoft’s agent guidance. |
| Build a presentation or turn content into slides | PowerPoint Agent or Copilot in PowerPoint | Check availability in your tenant and review slide content against the source material. The same license and model prerequisites apply. Microsoft’s agent guidance. |
| Run a repeatable process across Microsoft 365 services | Copilot Workflows | Workflows can create automations from natural-language instructions across supported Microsoft 365 services. They do not support non-Microsoft or custom connectors, cannot be shared, and need review and testing before production. Microsoft’s Workflows guidance. |
| Search or summarize information in third-party business systems | Copilot connectors | An administrator must enable and configure the relevant connector. Access follows the underlying source permissions, and a Copilot license is required to view connector content. Microsoft’s connector overview. |
If a Claude process depends on third-party or custom automation that Workflows cannot support, record that gap rather than trying to force it into an unsuitable workflow.
Decide whether you are replacing Claude’s interface or its model
Microsoft announced that Claude is available in mainline Copilot chat through its Frontier program, and describes model choice as part of its model-diverse strategy. Availability depends on the specific Copilot experience and tenant. Microsoft’s March 9, 2026 announcement discusses its model-diverse approach and Cowork; Microsoft’s Anthropic-model documentation covers applicable Copilot experiences and controls.
#1 Best Overall
- Instant Copilot. Unlock new possibilities with the dedicated Copilot key, which gives you instant access to experiences that can enhance your productivity¹.
- Enhance your experience With the new microphone mute key and snipping key
- Full keyboard experience. Features a full mechanical keyset, backlit keys, and a large trackpad for precise navigation and control. Optimal key spacing allows fast, fluid typing.
- Slim and compact Performs like a traditional, full-size keyboard.
- Clicks in place instantly Use in combination with the Surface Pro (11th Edition), Pro 9 and Pro 8* kickstand for a perfect laptop experience anywhere.
That creates two different migration goals. If your aim is to do the work inside Microsoft 365, Copilot may provide that work surface while still offering an Anthropic model in selected experiences. If your policy requires avoiding Anthropic models, check model availability and tenant settings for each experience rather than assuming that switching applications changes the model. The Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Agents specifically require Anthropic models to be enabled. Microsoft’s agent prerequisites.
Check licensing, tenant settings, and data handling
Before a pilot, ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to verify the configuration that applies to your users, location, and chosen Copilot experience. Microsoft’s controls and regional availability can differ by model and cloud environment.

- License: Confirm users have a paid Microsoft 365 Copilot license for Word, Excel, or PowerPoint Agents. Copilot Chat users without that license cannot use those agents. Microsoft’s agent guidance.
- Anthropic provider and user access: Review the provider setting and any user- or group-level access. Microsoft says Anthropic models are enabled by default for most commercial-cloud customers, but EU/EFTA/UK defaults differ; government and sovereign cloud environments also have restrictions. Microsoft’s Anthropic-model documentation.
- Region and app settings: For Word, Excel, or PowerPoint use in EU/EFTA/UK tenants, check both the provider setting and the app-specific setting. Microsoft states that this use processes Anthropic-model data outside the Microsoft EU Data Boundary and excludes those models from applicable in-country processing commitments. Microsoft’s regional and data-processing details.
- Model terms: Check the terms for the exact model. Microsoft documents that certain models may be offered under separate terms with data retention; those models are off by default and require explicit administrator opt-in. Microsoft’s model terms and controls.
- Connector access: Confirm that the organization has enabled the connector users need. Connector results remain subject to the user’s permissions in the connected source. Microsoft’s connector overview.
Migrate a Claude workflow in five steps
- Inventory the work. For each recurring Claude task, note its source files, target app, external systems, expected output, and who approves the result.
- Match it to a Copilot capability. Classify the task as in-app authoring with a Word, Excel, or PowerPoint Agent; Microsoft 365 automation with Workflows; or cross-system retrieval with a connector. Document unsupported automation needs instead of assuming Workflows can connect to any service. Agent guidance, Workflows guidance, and connector overview.
- Resolve administration first. Check the license, Anthropic settings, regional requirements, model terms, and connector configuration before giving users a task to test. Microsoft’s Anthropic-model documentation.
- Pilot representative tasks. Use realistic prompts and files. Compare completeness, factual accuracy, citations, formatting, permissions, and time spent reviewing against the existing process; do not treat an informal pilot as a benchmark.
- Review before production. Have an accountable user check outputs and generated automations. For Workflows, Microsoft explicitly advises: “Always review and test AI-generated workflows before using them in production.” Keep the existing process available until the pilot meets your team’s requirements. Microsoft Support’s Workflows guidance.
What to verify in a workflow pilot
For an in-app agent, check that it used the intended source files, produced the requested format, and made no unsupported assumptions in its document, calculations, or slides. For a generated workflow, inspect the selected sites or channels, inputs, permissions, error handling, and outputs before it runs on live work. A connector pilot should confirm that results come from the intended source and are visible only to users with the appropriate access.
