Replacing a Galaxy Watch battery starts with identifying the exact generation and case size: batteries, tools and opening procedures are not universal. Once you have the model number, decide whether a model-specific DIY repair is appropriate or whether to get a service quote.
Identify your Galaxy Watch before choosing a battery
Check the model number and case size in the watch’s settings or on its product documentation before ordering parts. The original Galaxy Watch battery guide covers 42 mm and 46 mm versions, while the Watch3, Watch4 and Watch5 have separate procedures. Choose DIY repair or professional service
DIY can make sense if you can verify the part fit, have the model-specific tools and are comfortable opening and resealing a compact device. Otherwise, ask Samsung or an authorized repair provider whether it accepts your model and request a current quote. Samsung describes walk-in, mail-in and at-home Care service using Samsung-certified professionals and genuine parts; availability and eligibility depend on model and location.

Samsung’s January 23, 2024 announcement describes its self-repair program and service options, but it does not establish eligibility for every Galaxy Watch model. Contact Samsung or a local provider for current details.
Prepare safely before opening the watch
- Remove the watch from its charger and power it down.
- Reduce the battery charge below 25% before disassembly. iFixit’s Samsung Galaxy Watch Battery Replacement guide says: “For your safety, discharge your battery below 25% before disassembling your smartwatch. This reduces the risk of a dangerous thermal event if the battery is accidentally damaged during the repair.” The Watch3 guide gives the same precaution.
- Gather the tools and any replacement adhesive specified by the procedure for your exact generation. Do not assume one generation’s parts list applies to another.
- Read the full model-specific procedure before starting so you know which components remain connected as the case opens.
If the battery is swollen, do not treat a routine replacement guide as a complete handling protocol. iFixit advises appropriate precautions, but the cited guides do not establish a full set of instructions for safely handling a swollen battery; seek qualified repair guidance instead.

What to expect from a model-specific repair
Original Galaxy Watch
The iFixit guide covers the 42 mm and 46 mm models and lists a Tri-point Y00 screwdriver, an opening tool, a spudger and a Phillips #00 screwdriver. Follow that guide for the applicable model rather than applying its steps to a later generation.
Galaxy Watch3
The Watch3 has its own battery procedure. Its guide notes that replacement adhesive may be needed, so check the part and materials requirements for the specific watch before opening it.

Galaxy Watch4 and Watch5
Use the separate guide for the exact generation. In the Watch5 procedure, a sensor flex cable remains connected as the back cover is opened. Do not pull the cover away as if it were already disconnected; follow the guide’s instructions for working around the cable. That detail should not be assumed to describe every Galaxy Watch generation.
Check the repair outcome and service details
After a DIY repair, confirm that the watch starts and behaves normally, and that the case has been reassembled as directed by its procedure. A physical repair involves both opening and resealing the watch; the cited material does not establish a universal post-repair water-resistance result. If you are unsure whether the watch was closed correctly, or it does not operate normally, stop using it and seek service.
For professional repair, confirm the provider accepts your exact model and ask what the quoted service includes. Current pricing, local eligibility and availability are not established for every watch or location, so verify those details directly before committing.
