You can reduce Shorts recommendations in YouTube and set a Shorts feed time limit, but neither option completely disables Shorts. Use Show fewer Shorts to request fewer recommendations on supported surfaces, or set the feed limit to zero to receive a reminder when you reach it. YouTube says that reminder can be dismissed or ignored.
Reduce Shorts recommendations on Home
- Open the YouTube app and go to Home.
- Scroll to a grid of Shorts.
- Tap More at the top of the grid.
- Choose Show fewer Shorts.
This asks YouTube to show fewer Shorts recommendations on supported surfaces such as Home and Watch Next; it is not a documented way to remove every Short throughout YouTube. You can clear this feedback by going to My Activity, opening Other activity, and deleting the “Show fewer Shorts” entry. YouTube Help: Manage your recommendations & search results

Set a Shorts feed limit
- Sign in to the YouTube app.
- Tap You, then open Settings.
- Choose Time management, then Shorts feed limit.
- Select a limit. YouTube lists zero minutes as an option.
When you reach the selected limit, YouTube displays a reminder with an option to dismiss or ignore it. A zero-minute limit is therefore a time-management prompt, not a lockout that blocks the feed. YouTube Help: Set a Shorts feed limit
Fine-tune recommendations and history
For individual recommendations, use YouTube’s Not interested feedback or channel recommendation controls where available. You can also manage watch and search history. These controls can influence recommendations and other YouTube experiences, but YouTube does not describe them as a guarantee that Shorts disappear from every surface. Can you turn Shorts off completely?
The official YouTube guidance for these controls does not document a permanent, global switch to turn Shorts off. A Google Product Expert responding in the YouTube Community on August 31, 2025 likewise said there was no setting to completely turn Shorts off and mentioned browser extensions as an unofficial desktop option. Community advice is not an official product specification, and the cited discussion does not establish any extension’s current availability, safety, or compatibility. If you try a desktop extension, check its current permissions, publisher, reviews, and compatibility before installing it; do not assume it is endorsed by YouTube or that it will work in every browser.
