On a Mac, hold Command (⌘) and drag the Safari extension button out of the toolbar to hide it. On iPhone, the puzzle-like control may be Safari’s Page Menu; Apple documents how to manage extensions and edit menu actions, but not how to permanently remove the Page Menu control. The right fix depends on whether you want to hide a button, disable an extension, or uninstall it.
First, identify what you want to remove
Safari’s controls differ between Mac and iPhone. On Mac, the puzzle-like item may be an extension button in the toolbar. On iPhone, it may be the Page Menu. These controls are not the same as the extension itself: hiding a button does not disable or uninstall an extension.

- Hide a Mac toolbar button: remove its visible button while leaving the extension installed.
- Stop an extension from running: turn it off in Safari’s extension settings.
- Remove an extension: uninstall it, or delete the app that contains it.
- On iPhone: manage extensions in Settings or adjust their access for a particular website through the Page Menu.
On Mac: hide the Safari extension button
- Hold down the Command (⌘) key.
- Drag the extension button out of the Safari toolbar.
- Release it when it is outside the toolbar.
This removes the button from the toolbar, not the extension. If the toolbar is hidden or the button is simply out of view, check View > Show Toolbar or use View > Customize Toolbar. See Apple’s Safari window guide.
On Mac: disable or uninstall the extension
Turn it off
- In Safari, choose Safari > Settings.
- Select Extensions.
- Deselect the extension you want to turn off.
Remove it
- Open Safari > Settings > Extensions.
- Select the extension.
- Click Uninstall. If the extension is provided by an app, delete that app to remove it.
A change may take effect immediately or after you open a new page or refresh the current one. Apple cautions that “Extensions may access the content of the webpages you visit,” so check what an extension does before leaving it enabled. See Apple Support’s guide to Safari extensions on Mac.

On iPhone: turn off or remove an extension
Disable it for Safari
- Open Settings > Apps > Safari > Extensions.
- Tap the extension.
- Turn it off.
If you use Safari profiles, extension settings may need to be changed separately for each profile.
Change its access on one website
- Open the website in Safari.
- Open the Page Menu.
- Tap Manage Extensions.
- Turn the relevant extension on or off for that site.
Uninstall it
- Find the extension’s app on the Home Screen.
- Touch and hold its icon, then tap Delete app.
- Follow the prompts to confirm.

Can you permanently remove the Page Menu on iPhone?
Apple documents editing the Page Menu by adding or removing Page and Tab Actions. It also documents Hide Toolbar, which hides the search field; tap the bottom of the screen to bring the toolbar back. Those options change menu actions or hide the toolbar, not the Page Menu control itself. Apple’s current guide does not explain how to permanently remove that control.
