On a Samsung Galaxy tablet, the quickest documented way to leave split screen is to tap Recents in the navigation bar, then tap the X to close split screen. If your Tab A7 shows different controls, try dragging the divider to expand one app to full screen.

These are the steps in Samsung’s Galaxy tablet multitasking instructions. Button labels and placement can vary with software version and wireless service provider.

Use the divider to return one app to full screen
Press and hold the separator between the two apps, then drag it toward an edge until one app fills the screen. The direction depends on how the apps are arranged: Samsung’s general troubleshooting instructions describe dragging the separator to the top or bottom, while a guide for the Galaxy Tab A7 4G Wi-Fi 2020 describes dragging it left or right. Treat the divider as a layout-dependent alternative, not a fixed-direction gesture.
Stop split screen from opening accidentally
If your tablet offers the relevant gesture controls, turn off the gestures that can start Multi window:

Open Settings > Advanced features > Multi window.

Switch off Swipe for split screen and, if you also want to prevent that gesture, Swipe for pop-up view.

This menu path comes from Samsung’s Galaxy phone troubleshooting instructions, so it may not appear exactly this way on a Tab A7 or on every software version. If you cannot find it, search Settings for Multi window. Turning off swipe gestures does not necessarily remove every manual way to start split screen.

If the controls or steps do not match

Check that you are using the Recents control in the navigation bar; its appearance or position may differ from Samsung’s example.

Try the divider method and move it toward the edge that corresponds to your current layout.

If one app will not open in split screen, it may not support the feature. Samsung notes that not all apps support split-screen view.

Samsung’s tablet guidance says available screens and settings can vary by software version and wireless service provider. The Tab A7 4G Wi-Fi 2020 guide is specific to that model; the exact controls may differ on other Tab A7 variants.
