There is no single universal Google Lens removal switch documented in Google’s current help. You can disable an available preinstalled app on Android, remove its Home screen shortcut, avoid Lens tools in Chrome, or manage past Search activity—but each changes something different.
Choose what you want to remove

Disable a preinstalled app on Android
Google’s general route for disabling a preinstalled app is Settings > Apps. The exact labels and availability vary by device and software version.

- Open your phone’s Settings.
- Tap Apps (the label may differ), then find Google Lens if it is listed.
- Open the app’s details and tap Disable if that option is available. Confirm if prompted.
Google notes that disabling a system app can cause other apps to misbehave and can delete data associated with the disabled app. A disabled app may also be unavailable to enable or use until you change the setting again. See Google’s instructions for disabling apps.
On many Android devices, Chrome is preinstalled and cannot be removed; Google documents disabling Chrome through Settings > Apps on devices where that applies. This is a separate action from disabling Lens, and it is not a general method for removing Lens features elsewhere. See Google’s Android Chrome guidance.

Remove only the Home screen icon
If you only want the Lens icon out of sight, remove its shortcut from the Home screen using your device’s usual icon-removal action. Google says Home screen icons can be removed, but this does not necessarily uninstall or disable the app. Menu wording and gestures vary by manufacturer. Google’s app guidance covers this distinction.
Avoid Google Lens in Chrome
Chrome on a computer
Google documents Lens actions in Chrome’s More menu, including Search this tab with Google Lens, and in the right-click menu for images. To avoid invoking Lens, do not choose those commands. The current help instructions do not document a general setting that turns Lens off across Chrome. See Google’s Chrome computer instructions.

Chrome on Android
Chrome Help documents using Lens to search with the camera or an image from the gallery, and to search images on a webpage. Screen search is available on select Android devices. Avoid those Lens actions if you do not want to use the feature; the help page does not establish a universal Chrome setting to disable it. See Google’s Chrome Android instructions.

Disabling an app or avoiding a Chrome action does not delete activity that may already have been saved. Google’s Chrome Help directs users to My Google Activity to manage or delete Search activity. The sources do not provide a complete Lens-only deletion walkthrough, so use the activity controls available in your account rather than assuming that disabling Lens clears past records.

For Lens searches of webpage content in Chrome, Google says a screenshot and page data are sent for that specific query and temporarily stored for processing; Google says the page or image is not used for training as a result. Consult the relevant Chrome Lens help for its explanation of this handling.

If the setting or option is missing
- No Disable button: The app may not be available to disable on that device, or the manufacturer may use different labels. Check the app’s details under Settings > Apps.
- Lens still appears elsewhere: Disabling a listed app does not prove that integrated Search or Chrome features have been removed.
- Right-click still offers Lens: Google’s current computer help documents that entry point but not a universal off switch. Older community advice about Chrome flags is not established here as a current supported fix.
- You want old activity gone: Use Google activity controls separately; changing future access does not itself delete past activity.
