Uninstall the Copilot app from Windows 11
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Copilot in the app list.
- Select its More options (…) menu.
- Choose Uninstall and follow any confirmation prompt.
Microsoft documents this route for the Windows Copilot app: How to uninstall the Copilot app. New Windows 11 PCs should have the app installed, and it may be pinned to Start or the taskbar, but device images and organizational policies can affect whether it appears or can be removed. If you do not see Copilot or the uninstall option, your configuration may differ.

Hide Copilot from the taskbar without uninstalling it
Right-click the pinned Copilot icon on the taskbar and choose Unpin from taskbar. This removes the shortcut from view; it does not remove the app or establish that Copilot is disabled. Microsoft describes this as a general taskbar action in its Windows 11 taskbar guidance.
Stop Copilot notifications and banners
Open Settings > System > Notifications, locate Copilot among the senders, and adjust its notification controls. You can turn off notifications for that app or change whether banners appear. The controls silence alerts; they do not uninstall Copilot or turn off the underlying app. Microsoft explains the per-app options in Notifications and Do Not Disturb in Windows.
Turn off Copilot inside Microsoft 365 apps
Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote is separate from the Windows Copilot app. Microsoft documents an Enable Copilot checkbox in supported desktop apps for personal Microsoft accounts. The option is not available for work or school accounts under the guidance in its Microsoft 365 Copilot settings article. Availability also depends on app version. Removing a Copilot ribbon icon alone does not establish that the feature is turned off.

Microsoft’s published steps explain how to uninstall the Windows app, but do not establish whether it will remain uninstalled after every future Windows update. Check Installed apps if it reappears. Managed PCs may also restrict these controls.
