To remove the Copilot icon without uninstalling the app, open Settings > Personalization > Taskbar and turn off the Copilot or “Ask Copilot” toggle if it appears. To remove the app itself, use Settings > Apps > Installed apps and uninstall Copilot.
Hide Copilot from the taskbar
- Open Settings.
- Select Personalization > Taskbar.
- Find the Copilot taskbar control—Microsoft’s accessibility guidance calls it Ask Copilot—and turn it off if it is available.
This removes the taskbar entry, not the Copilot app. Microsoft’s taskbar customization guidance covers taskbar controls separately from its app-uninstall instructions.
Uninstall the Copilot app
If you want Copilot removed as an app rather than merely hidden from the taskbar, use Windows 11’s Installed apps page:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Copilot.
- Select the More options menu beside Copilot, then select Uninstall.
These are the uninstall steps in Microsoft’s Getting started with Microsoft Copilot guidance. Uninstalling affects the app; hiding the taskbar entry affects only its display there.

If the Copilot taskbar toggle is missing
Taskbar labels and available controls can vary. Check Settings > Personalization > Taskbar for the control available on your PC. Microsoft notes that some Copilot options may depend on account type or organization settings in its Copilot settings accessibility guidance. If the toggle is not present, the setting may not be available for your configuration.
What to expect after hiding it
Hiding Copilot from the taskbar does not uninstall it. You may still see the app in Start because taskbar visibility and app installation are separate; uninstall it from Installed apps if you want the app removed.
