To remove an AirPods Pro ear tip, hold the earbud firmly and pull the tip straight outward from its base with steady pressure. To attach one, align it with the oval connector and press until it clicks, then give it a gentle tug to confirm it is secure.
Remove an AirPods Pro ear tip
- Hold the earbud firmly in one hand.
- With your other hand, grip the ear tip close to its base, where it connects to the AirPod.
- Pull the tip straight outward with steady pressure. Avoid pulling at an angle.
- If the tip is slippery, use a clean, lint-free cloth for grip. You can also gently roll the soft rubber edge inside out to hold it more easily.

Attach an AirPods Pro ear tip
- Align the tip with the AirPod’s oval-shaped connector.
- Press the tip onto the connector from its base until it clicks into place. Apple says you should feel and hear the click.
- Gently tug the tip to make sure it is attached securely.
Check the tip size and model compatibility
AirPods Pro ear tips are not interchangeable between generations. Apple lists these sizes for each model:

To read the size, gently roll back the tip’s edge and look for the marking inside near the base. When replacing or reusing tips, identify your AirPods Pro generation first and choose tips made for that model. Apple’s model and tip-size guide lists the supplied sizes.

Choose a comfortable fit and check the seal
A suitable tip should feel comfortable and create a seal. If the seal is poor, adjust the AirPod in your ear or try a larger tip. If a tip feels too large or uncomfortable, try a smaller one. Your left and right ears may need different sizes. Apple explains fit selection and testing in its AirPods Pro ear-tip guide.
For AirPods Pro 1 and AirPods Pro 2, use Ear Tip Fit Test. AirPods Pro 3 users can use Acoustic Seal Test with iOS or iPadOS 26 or later. Start in Settings with the AirPods connected to your iPhone or iPad; the exact menu path may vary with software version.
