For a Samsung over-the-range (OTR) microwave mounted beneath a cabinet, removal means handling an overhead appliance secured at both the wall and the cabinet—not simply unplugging it and pulling it forward. Use the installation guide for your exact model and arrange a second person to help support the unit. This guide covers OTR models; a countertop microwave is not mounted this way, so confirm which type you have before starting.
Find the exact model and its installation guide
Locate the model code on the appliance label and search for it on Samsung Support. Open the model’s page and download its installation guide. Instructions and available documents vary by model; for example, the ME11A7510DG support page lists an installation guide, version 3.0, modified September 4, 2026, as well as a user manual. Do not assume that guide applies to another microwave.

Samsung’s available documentation is primarily for installation, not a universal removal procedure. The order for dealing with cabinet fasteners, wall mounting, power, and ductwork depends on the model and how it was installed. Follow model-specific instructions where available; if the guide does not explain removal or the setup differs from its diagrams, contact a qualified installer rather than treating installation steps as an approved reverse sequence.

In Samsung’s ME4000R/ME17R7021EB manual, the wall mounting plate’s hooks support the lower rear edge of the microwave, while screws through the upper cabinet secure the appliance from above. This is an example, not proof that every Samsung OTR uses identical hardware. The important practical point is that an OTR microwave may remain attached at more than one point. It must be securely supported before any fastener is released, and it must not be allowed to hang from the remaining attachment.

Plan for the weight and get help
Treat the microwave as a heavy overhead load. Samsung’s installation instructions recommend two people for installation; that is a sensible minimum for planning to support and handle an OTR unit, though the exact removal arrangement depends on the model and site. Samsung Electronics America lists a net weight of 56.7 lb for the ME11CB751012 slim OTR model. That figure is specific to that model and should not be applied to other microwaves.
- Clear the range and nearby counter so the work area and landing place are unobstructed.
- Arrange a helper who can support the appliance while the model-specific attachments are addressed.
- Do not work beneath a unit that is not securely supported.
- Do not use the handle or power cord to support or lift the microwave. Samsung’s product sheet cautions against gripping or using the handle during installation and against lifting by the cord.
Identify the power and ventilation connections
Power
Samsung’s cited ME4000R/ME17R7021EB manual specifies a grounded three-prong outlet and says a qualified electrician should correct grounding or other electrical deficiencies. Check the exact model’s instructions and determine how the microwave is connected before attempting to move it. Do not improvise with hardwired, damaged, or uncertain wiring; seek a qualified electrician or installer.

Ventilation
Samsung documents three ventilation configurations: outside-top exhaust, recirculating ductless, and outside-back exhaust. Determine which configuration your microwave uses and whether ducting remains connected to the appliance. The duct route and attachment are installation-specific, so do not pull the microwave away in a way that strains or tears an unseen connection.

When to stop and call a professional
Samsung describes installation as requiring basic mechanical and electrical skills and assigns responsibility for proper installation to the installer. Get help from a qualified appliance installer or electrician if you cannot securely support the appliance, cannot identify its fasteners or wall mounting, encounter uncertain wiring, or cannot tell how the duct is attached. Samsung’s model support pages also route users to support and repair services.

Replacing the microwave? Check fit before choosing another
Removal is often part of a replacement. Before selecting a new unit, compare the available cabinet opening with the replacement’s width, height, and depth; check weight and mounting arrangement; and match the ventilation route—outside top, recirculating, or outside back. These are compatibility checks, not a basis for assuming that one brand or model is better than another.
