The account is not permanently deleted, but Samsung-account data synced to the phone is removed from the device. Back up and verify anything important before signing out.
Before you remove the account
Check that you can sign back in: Samsung may ask for the account password during removal. If you have forgotten it, reset it through Samsung’s account-recovery process before continuing; Samsung’s UK sign-in guide says the password is required.

Review important photos, contacts, documents and other content associated with Samsung services. Confirm that anything you need is backed up somewhere you can access and restore from; do not assume that seeing a sync indicator means you have an independent copy. - Open Settings.
- Tap Accounts and backup.
- Tap Manage accounts or, on some versions, Account management.
- Select Samsung account.
- Tap Remove account and follow the confirmation prompts. Some versions then show Sign out and ask for your password.
On some recent Galaxy software, the Samsung account is shown as a profile at the top of Settings instead. Open that profile and choose Sign out. Menu names and confirmation screens differ by model and software version; Samsung describes both routes in its Gulf, Canada and UK support guides.

What happens to your data
Removing the account from the phone is not the same as permanently deleting the Samsung account. You can add the account to the phone again later. While signed out, Samsung-account services on that phone are unavailable and new data will not sync through that account.
Samsung Canada’s guide, updated May 16, 2026, says that synced Samsung-account data is removed from the device when the account is removed, while local data that has not been synced with Samsung Cloud remains on the device. Samsung also warns that some data associated with the account may not be accessible on the phone until you add the account again. The outcome can therefore vary by content and app: check the items you rely on and confirm a usable backup before proceeding. See Samsung Canada’s guide and Samsung Gulf’s removal guidance.

Make a computer backup with Smart Switch
If you want a computer copy, Samsung documents this Smart Switch route: connect the phone to a computer with a USB cable, allow access on the phone when prompted, then choose Backup in Smart Switch. Samsung’s personal-information removal guide notes that Smart Switch does not transfer hidden files or Secure Folder files. Check the backup and its contents before relying on it; it is not a guarantee that every file has been copied.

You do not need a factory reset just to remove a Samsung account. A reset is a separate, destructive operation: Samsung UK says it removes personal information and data from the device and returns it to factory settings. Do not choose a reset if your goal is to keep the phone’s data. If you are selling or giving away the phone, back up first and follow Samsung’s separate factory-reset instructions.

Removing the account versus unregistering the phone
Removing the account from the phone signs it out on that device. If your goal is also to stop the device appearing in the Samsung account’s device list, that may require a separate unregistering step. Samsung US distinguishes device removal from unregistering in its account and device guidance.
