You can remove a claimed section from an archived YouTube livestream in YouTube Studio without deleting or reuploading the replay. Open the claim’s details, choose Take Action > Trim out segment, preview the cut, then save it. Download a backup first: since June 2025, saved Studio Editor changes cannot be reverted.
Before editing: download a backup
YouTube says Studio Editor changes saved since June 2025 cannot be reverted with “Revert to original.” Before trimming, download the video or use Google Takeout to download your uploaded videos. YouTube also recommends keeping a local recording of livestreams as a backup. A portable external drive is one optional place to store a copy; it is not required.

Trim the claimed segment in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and select Content.
- Find the livestream replay and click its copyright notice, then select View details.
- Locate the claim you want to address and choose Take Action > Trim out segment.
- Adjust the start and end points if needed so the entire claimed material is inside the section being removed. If claimed content remains, the claim will not clear.
- Preview the edit and check that the cut removes the claimed material without removing more of the replay than intended.
- Select Save, then Trim.
- Wait for processing. Studio shows an editing-in-progress badge and an estimate in the Videos list. After processing finishes, reload the page and confirm both the edit and the claim status.
This edits the existing replay; you do not need to delete it or upload a replacement. YouTube’s general trim guidance says the video URL, view count, and comments remain. That general trim feature is for videos shorter than six hours.

When trimming is not the best option
The claim is for audio
If cutting the whole interval would remove wanted footage or speech, the claim tools may offer Replace song using music from the YouTube Audio Library, or Erase song. Erase song attempts to mute only the claimed song. You can also mute all audio in the claimed segment; YouTube says this is usually faster and more likely to remove the claim. Preview the result and verify the claim after processing. Song-only erasure can fail on difficult tracks, and audio tools do not address claims on visual material.

You believe the claim is mistaken
Do not remove material automatically if you believe the claim is invalid and you have the rights needed to use it. YouTube offers a dispute option for creators who believe a claim is invalid and are confident they have the necessary rights. If the claimed timestamps appear inaccurate, YouTube’s claim guidance says to contact Creator Support.
Livestream replay claims and archive limits
Archived livestreams can receive Content ID claims after the stream ends. YouTube’s guidance states: “Content ID claims are only made after you complete your live streams, if you decide to archive the video.” Streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording if you need a dependable copy of a long stream.

Limits that can affect editing
- YouTube’s general trim feature supports videos shorter than six hours.
- A channel outside the YouTube Partner Program may be unable to save edits to an unedited video with more than 100,000 views, except for face blurring. Check the current options shown in your account.
- Studio labels and account eligibility can change. Use the actions and claim details presented for the specific replay in your Studio account.
