To inspect a webpage open on an iPhone or iPad, turn on Web Inspector on the device, connect it to your Mac, enable Safari’s developer features on the Mac, then select the device and page from Safari’s Develop menu. Apple’s documented wireless setup requires a cable connection first.
Set up remote Web Inspector
- Enable it on the iPhone or iPad. Open Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced and turn on Web Inspector. Apple documents this current settings path in its iOS and iPadOS inspection guide.
- Connect the device to your Mac with a cable. Use a data-capable cable compatible with both devices. If prompted, approve the trust request; the Mac may need to be trusted before the device appears in Safari.
- Enable developer features on the Mac. In Safari, open Safari > Settings > Advanced and enable the developer features. WebKit also says Web Inspector must be enabled on the Mac; see its Enabling Web Inspector guide.
- Open the page on the mobile device. Navigate to the page in Safari on the iPhone or iPad.
- Open its inspector from the Mac. In Mac Safari, choose Develop, select your device, then select the webpage. Safari opens a Web Inspector window for that page.
What you can inspect
Apple documents inspection of Safari webpages, service workers, Home Screen web apps, extensions, and web content in apps. Embedded app content is not automatically exposed: an app’s developer must configure the relevant page or JavaScript context, such as a WKWebView or JSContext, as inspectable.

Use a simulator when you do not have a device
Currently booted iOS and iPadOS simulators on macOS appear in Safari’s Develop menu, and Web Inspector is always enabled for simulators. Apple describes simulators as a way to test webpages and apps without physical hardware in its inspection documentation. A simulator is useful for testing ordinary page behavior; use a physical device when a bug depends on actual device hardware or conditions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsEnable wireless inspection after setup
After the device has first been connected to the Mac by cable, open the Mac Safari Develop menu, open the device submenu, and enable Connect via Network. Apple lists Web Inspector being enabled and the initial cable connection as prerequisites. Apple also notes Xcode as an alternative route for connecting the device.

Troubleshoot common connection problems
- The device is missing from Develop: Confirm Web Inspector is on in Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced, connect by cable, and accept any trust prompt.
- Develop or developer tools are missing on the Mac: Enable developer features in Safari > Settings > Advanced. WebKit’s setup guide also says to enable Web Inspector on the Mac.
- The device appears, but the page does not: Open the target URL in Safari on the device, then check the device submenu in Develop; pages and other inspectable content are listed under the device.
- Wireless connection does not appear to work: First connect by cable, then enable Connect via Network from the device submenu.
- App content is not listed: The app developer must make its web page or JavaScript context inspectable. The setting does not expose every app’s embedded browser content automatically.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a screenshot rather than an interactive Web Inspector session, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It does not remotely debug an iPhone Safari session, but a request can capture a page directly:
