Use await page.reload() to reload the page currently open in Puppeteer. It returns a promise for the main-resource response (or null in cases such as a response-less navigation), so await it before continuing. By default, Puppeteer waits for the page’s load event, up to 30 seconds; choose another lifecycle condition or wait for an application-specific signal when needed. These API details are for Puppeteer 25.12.0.
Reload the current page directly
Call page.reload() and await the result:
const response = await page.reload();The method returns Promise<HTTPResponse | null>. If the main resource redirects, the promise resolves with the final main-resource response. A reload completing its configured navigation wait does not guarantee that application-specific asynchronous work—such as data fetched and rendered after the load event—has finished.

Choose when the reload wait completes
page.reload() accepts reload options. In Puppeteer 25.12.0, the documented defaults are waitUntil: 'load' and timeout: 30000 milliseconds. You can set a different lifecycle milestone, change the timeout, or pass an abort signal. A timeout of 0 disables the timeout.
await page.reload({ waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded', timeout: 60_000 });Common lifecycle choices include:
'domcontentloaded'when the document has been parsed but you do not need to wait for every load-dependent resource.'load', the default, when you want the page’s load event.'networkidle0'or'networkidle2'when an appropriate network-quiet condition fits the page. Pages with ongoing requests may make network-idle waits unsuitable.
You can pass an array of lifecycle events; the wait succeeds only after all listed events have fired. Select a condition that matches the next step in your script rather than assuming one event means the whole application is ready.

Wait for application-specific readiness
If the next action depends on content rendered after navigation, follow the reload with a targeted wait for the relevant element or state. For example:
await page.reload({ waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded' });
await page.waitForSelector('[data-testid="account-summary"]');Replace the selector with an element that indicates the page is ready for your task. For state that is not represented by an element, use a condition tied to that application state. A generic navigation event alone cannot establish that every later update has completed.

Coordinate an action-triggered reload
When a click or other action triggers navigation or reload, register the navigation waiter before performing the action. Start both promises together with Promise.all:

]);This avoids missing a fast navigation before the waiter is listening. Use this pattern for an action-triggered navigation; use page.reload() for a direct programmatic reload. waitForNavigation() also recognizes History API URL changes. It resolves with the main-resource response, or null for an anchor change or History API navigation that provides no new main-resource response.

Adjust the navigation timeout
For one reload, pass a per-call timeout in its options. To change the default across navigation waits on a page, use page.setDefaultNavigationTimeout():

await page.reload();This page-wide navigation timeout also applies to goto, back and forward navigation, setContent, and waitForNavigation. Prefer a bounded timeout unless disabling it is intentional; an unbounded wait can leave a stalled step without a timely failure.

Reload without using the request cache or service worker
A normal reload does not by itself guarantee fresh network responses or bypass service-worker handling. Configure those behaviors separately when your test requires them:
await page.setCacheEnabled(false);
await page.setBypassServiceWorker(true);
await page.reload();These settings address different sources of page behavior: the first disables cache use for requests, while the second tells the page to ignore service workers. Enable only the controls needed for the test.

Common problems and fixes
- The next step runs before content appears: the reload’s lifecycle wait may have finished before the app’s asynchronous update. Wait for the specific selector or application state needed by that step.
waitForNavigation()times out after a click: ensure the action really causes a navigation or reload, and create the waiter and trigger together usingPromise.all. An action that only updates content without navigation needs a content-specific wait instead.- A navigation wait times out on a slow page: increase the per-call timeout or set a page-wide navigation timeout. Use
0only if an unlimited wait is deliberate. - The page still appears to use cached or service-worker content: configure
setCacheEnabled(false)and/orsetBypassServiceWorker(true)before reloading; a plain reload does not imply either setting. - The response value is
null: this can be expected for anchor or History API navigation without a new main-resource response. Do not treat a response object as the only readiness signal when the relevant condition is application state.
