Confirm the server is a virtual machine
CloudPanel supports virtual machines, not Linux containers such as LXC, LXD, or OpenVZ. Check the provider’s product details to confirm that your target is a VM. You will also need root access over SSH and an empty server for the installation, according to CloudPanel’s generic installation guide.

Will reimaging delete your files?
Assume a rebuild can erase the disk until the provider’s instructions confirm what the action does. Copy off anything you need before proceeding: website files, databases, certificates, configuration, and other data. Make sure you can access and restore the backup.

For example, DigitalOcean says rebuilding a Droplet wipes its disk and replaces it with the selected image; it warns that data without backups, snapshots, or local copies is irretrievable. That describes DigitalOcean Droplets, not every provider’s rebuild process. Check the documentation for your specific server before confirming.

Do not assume an IP address, snapshot, SSH key, login credential, or firewall setting will be retained—or removed. The available CloudPanel provider instructions do not establish universal retention rules for these resources, so verify them with your provider.

The listed minimum system requirements are x86 or ARM64 architecture, one core, 2 GB of RAM, and 10 GB of disk space. These are CloudPanel’s minimum requirements, not a guarantee of performance for a particular workload.

Some provider-specific CloudPanel instructions still mention Debian 11, but the current requirements page and generic installation guide list Debian 13 and 12 instead. Prefer those current release lists. If your provider’s image catalog or instructions differ, check both the provider’s current documentation and CloudPanel’s current requirements before rebuilding.

How to reimage the server and install CloudPanel
- Verify the target and access. Confirm that the server is a VM, that its image is a supported release, that it meets the listed minimums, and that you can log in as root over SSH.
- Back up required data. Copy files, databases, certificates, and configuration off the server, then confirm that the backup is accessible. Review the provider’s rebuild instructions for what will be erased and what may be retained.
- Choose the OS image in the provider’s control panel. Select a supported Ubuntu or Debian release from the list above. Read the confirmation screen carefully before starting the rebuild; provider controls and retention behavior vary.
- Connect to the rebuilt VM as root over SSH. Once the provider reports that the server is ready, use the root login method and address provided for that VM.
- Follow CloudPanel’s current generic installation guide. It documents updating packages, installing prerequisites, downloading the installer, checking its published SHA-256 checksum, and running it with a database engine selection. Use the exact commands and checksum on the live installation page; do not reuse a copied command or checksum without verifying it there.
The guide lists MySQL 8.4, MariaDB 12.3, and MariaDB 11.8 as database engine choices. Choose the option that suits your application and follow the corresponding current instructions on CloudPanel’s page.

- The server is a virtual machine, not an unsupported Linux container.
- The image is Ubuntu 26.04, 24.04, or 22.04, or Debian 13 or 12.
- The VM meets CloudPanel’s listed minimum architecture and resource requirements.
- You have root SSH access after the rebuild.
- Anything you need from the old disk is backed up somewhere you can reach.
- You have checked the provider’s instructions for the effects on the disk and any other resources you rely on.
CloudPanel and the provider documentation cited here do not establish a universal rebuild duration. Check the provider’s status and guidance for timing rather than planning around a fixed estimate.
