After your updated Open Graph tags are live, enter the page URL in LinkedIn’s Post Inspector and check the preview. LinkedIn advises allowing up to 48 hours for tag changes to take effect. This refresh affects new posts that use the URL; it does not change previews on posts already published.
Refresh the preview with LinkedIn Post Inspector
- Publish the updated metadata. Make sure the changes are live on the page at the URL people will share.
- Check the page’s Open Graph fields. LinkedIn lists
og:title,og:image,og:descriptionandog:urlin its website-sharing guidance. Confirm that the values match the title, image, description and canonical URL you intend to show. - Inspect the URL. Open LinkedIn Post Inspector, enter the URL and review the preview window for the corrected information.
- Allow time if it still looks old. LinkedIn’s troubleshooting guidance recommends allowing up to 48 hours after tag changes for them to take effect. Then inspect the URL again.
- Check a new share. Use the URL in a new post preview to confirm the result. The inspector’s refresh does not rewrite the preview attached to a post that has already been published.
What the refresh changes—and what it does not
LinkedIn says its share box uses oEmbeds and/or Open Graph Protocol to show a link’s title, description and image. Post Inspector is the documented way to check the information LinkedIn displays for a URL. The refresh is for new posts: LinkedIn Help states that changes affect the URL preview for new posts, while existing posts retain their original preview.

LinkedIn’s guidance does not establish a universal cache lifetime or guarantee immediate propagation. Treat the 48-hour interval as operational advice, not a promise that every preview will update at a precise time.

If the preview is still wrong
- Title, description or image is missing: Recheck the live page source for
og:title,og:description,og:imageandog:url, then inspect the URL again. LinkedIn notes that if its share box cannot find Open Graph or oEmbed data, it may not retrieve the expected content or may show other site content. - The inspector still shows the old version: If the tags were just changed, wait up to the 48 hours LinkedIn advises and run the URL through Post Inspector again.
- An existing post has the old preview: That is expected; refreshing the URL does not update previews on already-published posts. Check the URL in a new post instead.
- The page has the right tags but LinkedIn shows different content: Use Post Inspector to see what LinkedIn currently displays and verify that the URL you inspected is the same URL you plan to share. LinkedIn’s published guidance does not specify a universal propagation time beyond its recommendation to allow up to 48 hours.
