What’s actually slowing this PC down?

For lower delay and clearer chat, start with the headset’s intended gaming connection—often its included 2.4 GHz USB transceiver—then confirm your platform and game are using the headset’s correct output and microphone. Next, troubleshoot distance or interference and check mic mute, permissions, and level. The exact steps depend on the headset and platform; Bluetooth and a gaming transceiver do not behave identically.
1. Use the headset’s gaming connection and select the right devices
If your headset came with a USB wireless gaming transceiver, use that connection on a platform the headset supports. Do not assume ordinary Bluetooth will provide the same behavior as the manufacturer’s gaming connection. Sony’s INZONE setup guidance covers checking the USB transceiver and selecting the appropriate game and chat devices; the exact names vary by model and platform.

- Connect the transceiver to a supported USB port and make sure the headset is paired or connected to it. For INZONE H9/H7, Sony’s connection guide describes pairing if the 2.4 GHz connection will not establish.
- In the operating system or console sound settings, select the headset’s intended game output and microphone input.
- In the game and voice-chat app, select the same headset endpoints where device selection is available. An app can use a different input or output from the system default.
Official support pages do not establish a comparable millisecond latency figure across headsets, connection modes, and platforms. Wired mode may be an option on some models, but compatibility and microphone behavior are model-specific; check the headset documentation before changing connection mode.

If audio skips, disconnects, or seems inconsistent, first test the headset closer to its transceiver and move nearby Bluetooth devices away or temporarily disconnect them. For PlayStation wireless headset setups, PlayStation also recommends separating the wireless adapter from USB 3.0 devices when multiple devices are involved. Its support page says, “Remove any USB 3.0 devices from your console when using the PlayStation wireless headset.” If removing devices is impractical, try a USB extension cable to move the adapter away from the console’s USB devices or other adapters. This is a targeted troubleshooting step for the described setup, not a general latency booster.
3. Make sure the microphone is actually being captured
- Check the headset’s hardware mute switch, boom-mic mute button, or flip-to-mute position.
- Select the headset microphone in both the operating system or console and the game or chat app.
- Confirm the relevant app has permission to use the microphone. Bungie’s Destiny 2 audio guide, for example, calls out Windows microphone access for the game.
Then adjust the model’s microphone controls gradually and test in the actual chat app. Raising input level too far can make the voice sound distorted or capture more background sound; there is no universal gain setting or cross-platform mic-quality benchmark established by the cited support guidance.
PlayStation consoles
PlayStation consoles provide an Adjust Microphone Level setting. PlayStation’s headset troubleshooting page also recommends lowering the microphone fader by two to four notches as an echo remedy. Treat that as a specific echo troubleshooting step, not a best level for every headset or voice.

Supported Sony INZONE headsets on PC
For supported models, INZONE Hub exposes model-dependent controls such as microphone volume, input level or automatic gain, sidetone, mic test, and microphone on/off status. Use the mic test or a private recording to check the result before returning to team chat; available controls differ by model.
4. Test simultaneous Bluetooth connections and platform routing
If a phone is connected over Bluetooth while the headset is also connected to a PC or PS5 over 2.4 GHz, disconnect Bluetooth temporarily and test chat again. Sony documents a specific routing limitation for the INZONE H9, H7, H6 Air, H5, and H3: with the described simultaneous Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz use, the microphone input may be directed to the Bluetooth-connected call or chat device, preventing PC/PS5 chat use. See Sony’s model-family support guidance; do not assume this behavior applies to other headsets.
Wireless support is platform-specific, too. Microsoft’s Xbox Wireless Headset page describes support for Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, and Bluetooth mobile connections, with customization through the Xbox Accessories app and features including voice isolation and auto-mute. Check the exact platform and connection requirements for your own headset rather than inferring compatibility from the word “wireless.”

PlayStation’s support instructions include restoration guidance for PlayStation headsets and direct users to PlayStation Support if the listed steps do not resolve the issue. Sony also provides model-specific software and connection guidance through its INZONE support page. Menu names and reset procedures are not interchangeable across brands or models.

If the headset cannot meet your platform needs or its hardware is faulty, compare replacements on the factors that affect both connection reliability and chat:
- Compatibility with your exact console or PC, including whether a dedicated transmitter is required.
- The gaming connection method and what happens when Bluetooth is used at the same time.
- Microphone controls and noise-handling features, plus whether the mic is detachable or replaceable.
- Availability of replacement wireless adapters and model-specific manufacturer support.
- Fit and return terms, since comfort and microphone position affect day-to-day use.
The cited Xbox and Sony product pages illustrate different platform support and features, but they do not provide comparative latency or microphone test results. No universal winner or measured performance ranking follows from them.
