If looking at your phone in a moving car makes you feel sick, try your phone’s built-in motion cues first: iPhone has Vehicle Motion Cues, while compatible Android phones have Motion assist. Both place moving visual markers near the screen edges, but neither is established as a cure or guaranteed fix. If your phone does not support the built-in option, a separate app may be worth considering—with its permissions and claims checked first.
Which phone setting should you try?

These features add visual motion cues; they do not change the vehicle’s movement or guarantee that you will feel better. If you do not see the relevant setting, check the platform requirements below rather than assuming it is available on every phone.

Set up Vehicle Motion Cues on iPhone
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Motion > Vehicle Motion Cues.
- Select the setting you want. With Automatic enabled, cues appear when iPhone detects a passenger ride in a car or another on-road vehicle and disappear when movement stops.
- To switch the cues on or off yourself, open Control Center and use the Vehicle Motion Cues control.
- If desired, adjust the dots’ pattern, color, or visibility, including using larger or more dots.
Apple says the feature works best when you are seated facing forward. Do not use it while operating a moving vehicle or when safety requires your attention. See Apple’s Vehicle Motion Cues instructions.

iPhone also offers broader motion options, including Reduce Motion and controls for auto-playing animations. These affect onscreen motion generally and are not the same as vehicle-specific cues. Apple cautions against relying on motion settings in high-risk situations or to treat a medical condition; see its guide to customizing onscreen motion.

Set up Motion assist on Android
- Confirm that the phone runs Android 17 or higher and that Google Play Services is updated.
- Open Settings > profile > All services > Personal & device safety > Motion assist. If the menus differ, search Settings for Motion assist.
- Turn on Start in a moving vehicle if you want automatic activation.
- Add the Motion assist tile to Quick Settings so you can control it manually if vehicle detection does not start the cues.
- Adjust the appearance if wanted; Google lists opacity, color theme, shape, and randomization as customizable options.
Google says automatic vehicle detection may not always work, so the Quick Settings tile provides a manual fallback. If Motion assist is missing, check the Android version and Google Play Services update status. Availability depends on version and device support. Are third-party motion-sickness apps worth trying?
They are optional alternatives, not proven upgrades over the built-in cues. The app descriptions below are developer or store-listing information; they do not establish independent evidence that an app prevents or treats motion sickness.

KineStop for Android
The Google Play listing describes KineStop as an artificial-horizon overlay intended for use while reading or watching content in a vehicle, and shows in-app purchases. It may request Accessibility Service permission to draw cues over the whole screen. Read the permission prompt and listing carefully before enabling that access. The claims in the KineStop Google Play listing are developer-provided, not independent proof of efficacy.

Dizzout for iPhone and Android
Dizzout takes an audio-based approach rather than adding visual edge cues. Its App Store listing describes audio sessions before or during travel and shows in-app purchases; its website says it is free to try on iPhone and Android.
