You can often make a blender less disruptive without changing the recipe or buying a new machine: move it away from reflective surfaces, avoid overloading it, and check that its parts are seated correctly. The right fix depends on whether the main sound comes from the motor, vibration, a rattle, or ingredients that make the motor struggle.
Start with changes that do not affect the recipe
Try these adjustments before buying accessories or changing how finely you blend. They address common sources of extra noise, but results vary by blender, surface and ingredients.

- Move the blender away from walls and cabinets. A backsplash or nearby hard surface can reflect sound back into the room. Pull the machine forward while blending, while keeping it on a stable, level surface.
- Stay within the fill limit. Overloading can make the motor work harder. Follow the maximum-fill guidance for your model, especially with frozen or dense ingredients.
- Use short pulses when the recipe allows. Pulsing can give ingredients time to settle between bursts instead of running the motor continuously. It is not suitable for every recipe, so follow the blender’s instructions and the texture you want.
- Start at a lower speed if your blender has variable controls. Increase speed as needed rather than beginning at full power. Some models may not offer this option.
Ingredient order can also help contents circulate. nutribullet suggests layering soft produce before harder ingredients, with liquid and then ice or frozen ingredients arranged to support circulation. Treat this as guidance for the applicable nutribullet instructions, not a universal recipe rule; use the order recommended for your blender and drink.
Check assembly and maintenance if the sound is unusual
A blender’s normal operating sound varies by model, but a new rattle or a noticeable change from its usual sound is worth investigating. Turn the machine off and unplug it before checking parts or cleaning.

- MUFFLES THE GRIND, KEEPS THE PEACE — Softens that harsh blender roar into a quieter, more apartment-friendly hum. Honest expectation: this is a sound dampener, not a soundproof box — it noticeably reduces noise without claiming total silence.
- DROPS ON IN TWO SECONDS — Open-bottom dome design means no zippers, no velcro, no wrestling with a wrap-around cover. Start your blender, lift the cover by the top handle, drop it over. That's the entire process.
- REAL ACOUSTIC FOAM, NOT JUST QUILTED FABRIC — Three-layer construction: water-resistant quilted exterior, 1-inch acoustic foam core (the same egg-crate style used to absorb sound in studios), and a protective inner lining that won't scratch your blender.
- FITS YOUR FULL-SIZE BLENDER — 13" exterior diameter, 20" tall, with an 11" x 19" interior. Designed for most full-size countertop blenders up to roughly 10" wide and 18" tall. Soft construction folds away into a cabinet when you're not using it.
- DOUBLES AS COUNTERTOP STORAGE — Built-in front pocket holds your tamper, recipe cards, power cord, or accessories — so the cover earns its spot on your counter even between blending sessions. Tidy kitchen, quieter mornings, no clutter.
- Make sure the cup, lid and blade assembly are correctly seated and locked according to the manual.
- Clean residue around the blade assembly and motor base, following the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions.
- Inspect the rubber feet for cracks, wear or detachment. If they need replacing, use parts specified for your exact model; feet are not necessarily interchangeable.
- If your blender has a gasket, check that it is correctly seated and undamaged.
For a specific example of model-specific troubleshooting, the 2014 Blendtec Designer Series manual advises determining whether excessive noise comes from the motor or jar. It directs users to a Blendtec service center if the motor is excessively noisy, or if the jar is excessively noisy or its blade assembly seems loose or sounds gravelly when turned by hand. Follow the manual for your own model rather than treating that procedure as universal.
Use an enclosure only if it fits and stays ventilated
A blender sound enclosure can help contain noise when it is designed for the machine and used as directed. Check exact-model compatibility, clearance and ventilation before buying or using one. Follow the blender maker’s operating and cooling instructions, including any limits on run time.

nutribullet cautions against covering a blender base with a blanket or improvised box because it can trap heat or restrict airflow. It also warns that soft material under the base may affect stability or block ventilation openings. Avoid those workarounds, and do not put a blender on an unstable or obstructed surface to try to quiet it.

Vitamix Commercial’s Quick & Quiet product page describes an integrated commercial system using air management, vibration dampening and a large-rotor motor. It says the Accelerate container was designed to reduce blend times by 30% or more and is the only container compatible with Quick & Quiet. That is a manufacturer claim about blend time and its commercial system—not a measured decibel reduction or a result that can be assumed for household blenders.

Choose a fix based on the sound you hear
| What you notice | First thing to try | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Sound seems especially loud near a wall or cabinet | Move the blender forward, leaving it on a stable surface | Nearby hard surfaces can reflect sound into the room. |
| Motor labors with a dense or full batch | Check the fill limit; use suitable pulses or a lower starting speed if available | Overloading and difficult ingredients can make the motor work harder. |
| Rattle, looseness or a recent change in sound | Turn off and unplug the blender; check assembly, residue, feet and any gasket | A loose or worn component may be adding noise. |
| You want to contain sound during routine use | Look for an enclosure compatible with your model and designed for airflow | Fit, ventilation and stability matter as much as sound containment. |
Blender noise can come from the motor, vibration transferred to the counter, reflected sound, rattling parts or ingredients that increase motor effort. Appliance-design guidance from UL Prospector describes broad engineering approaches such as reducing vibration at its source, isolating the motor from the housing and damping vibration. Those are design principles, not instructions to open or modify a consumer blender.
There is no comparable household measurement here showing how many decibels a particular mat, enclosure or technique will reduce. If comparing enclosures or other options, check what sound source they address, compatibility, airflow and cooling, stability, cleaning, and whether the product is intended for home or commercial use. Judge blending time and texture with your own recipes rather than assuming a quieter setup will perform identically.

When to stop troubleshooting at home
If the blender becomes unusually noisy, a component appears damaged or loose, or cleaning and correct assembly do not resolve a rattle, stop using it and consult the manual or the manufacturer’s service support. Do not try to quiet the motor by opening the base or altering internal parts.
