If you mean a discount that comes with Plus, the process may be different: offers vary by country and subscriber status, and some apply automatically. First, identify which kind of discount you have
“PlayStation Store discount” can mean a code you enter during a purchase, a voucher you redeem through a separate flow, or a promotional offer associated with PlayStation Plus. The number of digits is a quick way to distinguish the first two. Identifying the offer before checkout matters because these mechanisms are not interchangeable: a cart discount code is not entered through the voucher flow, and a Plus promotion may not require a code at all.

These distinctions also help explain why a code or price may not behave as expected. A 10-digit code is intended to reduce the price of a qualifying purchase in the cart. A 12-digit voucher has its own redemption process and may represent Store value or content, rather than a checkout discount. A membership offer is governed by its stated conditions; having PlayStation Plus does not by itself mean every item or account receives the same price reduction.

How to use a 10-digit discount code
- Sign in to the purchasing account. Open PlayStation Store while signed in to the PlayStation account that will place the order. This is the account whose cart and purchase you are working with.
- Add eligible items to your cart. A discount code is applied during a purchase, so begin by selecting the item or items you intend to buy and placing them in the cart. Check the offer’s terms for the products it covers; the fact that an item is visible in the Store does not establish that it qualifies for a particular offer.
- Open the cart and choose the discount option. Select Enter Discount Code. This is the checkout action for a 10-digit discount code—not the voucher redemption flow and not a setting inside the Plus membership area.
- Enter the 10-digit code. Follow the on-screen checkout instructions after entering it. PlayStation describes the code as being applied from the cart while making a purchase.
- Review the order before completing it. Check that the discount appears as expected and that the displayed order details match what you intend to buy. If the price has not changed, stop and review the code type and eligibility conditions rather than assuming that a different redemption route will fix it.
- Complete checkout only when the terms and total are clear. PlayStation’s guidance says the discount code cannot be used for multiple purchases. Treat it as a one-purchase code: confirm the eligible cart and expected discount before completing the transaction.
PlayStation’s instructions describe applying the discount code in the cart during a purchase. It is not a code to enter in Plus membership settings or a way to change an existing subscription. See PlayStation’s code instructions.
What to check in the cart
Before entering the code, make sure the intended purchase is represented by the items in the cart and that the offer applies to those items. The available guidance establishes several exclusions and limits that can explain a rejected code: subscriptions and pre-orders are not eligible for a discount code; another discount code cannot be combined with it in the same purchase; and the code cannot be reused for a second purchase. These are separate checks. A code can be the right length but still fail because the cart contains an excluded purchase or because the code has already been used.
When the checkout screen presents a discount field, use it for the 10-digit code only. If you have a 12-digit voucher, do not treat its different length as a typo in the discount code. Use the voucher-code redemption route instead. Conversely, if your offer is described as an automatic Plus discount, there may be no code to enter; consult the offer terms and check whether the discounted price is reflected at checkout.

What a PlayStation Plus discount means
Promotions vary by region and account
A Plus promotion is not necessarily a reusable discount code. PlayStation’s US terms say promotional offers may apply to subscription-plan purchases and other separately sold digital content on PlayStation Store; they may be limited in time and vary by country and subscriber status. Check the terms shown for the offer on your local Store rather than assuming that a promotion available to another account or region will apply to yours. Read the US Plus Usage Terms.
The distinction between an offer and a code is useful when asking whether a discount is available to you. A promotional offer can have conditions about the country, the subscriber, and the period during which it is offered. It may apply to a subscription plan or separately sold digital content, but PlayStation’s terms do not mean that every Plus member receives every offer, that every digital item is discounted, or that an offer in one country is available in another. The offer displayed for your account and region is the relevant one to check.
Do not infer a subscription discount from the rules for the 10-digit cart code. The rule that discount codes do not apply to subscription services concerns that code mechanism. Separately, PlayStation’s US Plus Usage Terms state that Plus promotional offers may apply to subscription plan purchases. In other words, a particular promotion may have subscription terms even though an ordinary 10-digit discount code is not valid for subscription services. Check the specific offer rather than assuming the two statements conflict.
The UK hardware offer is automatic, not a code
PlayStation’s UK purchase guidance describes a 5% PlayStation Plus discount on eligible items, applied automatically at checkout. It excludes pre-orders, and PlayStation says new members should sign in again after activating Plus to receive the discount. This is the offer described on that UK page; it does not establish that every hardware item qualifies or that the same benefit is available in other countries. Because the UK offer is automatic, the steps differ from entering a 10-digit code. The guidance says the eligible-item discount applies at checkout; it does not instruct members to type a code into the cart. If you have just activated Plus as a new member, sign in again, then check the eligible purchase at checkout. If the reduction does not appear, do not assume that every piece of hardware is included: the stated condition is eligible items, and pre-orders are excluded.
Keep the region and the purchase channel in view. The 5% figure is attached to PlayStation’s UK purchase guidance, not a worldwide promise or a general discount on all PlayStation Store purchases. It also does not establish that a purchase through a different retailer receives this PlayStation checkout offer. If you are shopping outside the UK, check the local PlayStation Store and the terms shown for your account rather than carrying over the UK example.
Why a discount code may not work
If the code is rejected or the expected price does not appear, check the code type and the offer conditions before trying another redemption method. Work through the following checks in order; each addresses a different reason a purchase may not qualify.
- Confirm the length and code type: a 10-digit code is a discount code for a purchase; a 12-digit code is a voucher with a different redemption flow. PlayStation explains the distinction. A voucher is not made into a cart discount by entering it in the discount-code field.
- Check what is in the cart: discount codes do not apply to subscription services or pre-orders, according to PlayStation’s US redemption guidance. If the cart includes an excluded purchase, that restriction can account for the problem. The guidance does not support assuming that a 10-digit discount code can be used to reduce a subscription charge.
- Check whether another discount code is already being used: PlayStation says discount codes cannot be combined in one purchase. The restriction concerns another discount code in the same purchase, so do not expect two such codes to stack at checkout.
- Check whether the code has already been used: a discount code cannot be used for multiple purchases. It is not a reusable code to apply on separate orders. Review whether it has already been used before attempting to use it again.
- For a Plus offer, check its region and subscriber conditions: availability may differ by country and subscriber status, and offers may be limited in time. Do not assume an offer shown to another subscriber or in another country applies to your account.
- For the UK hardware example, check eligibility and sign-in: only eligible items are covered, pre-orders are excluded, and new members are told to sign in again after activating Plus. This is a UK-specific example, not a universal hardware rule.
- For a voucher, check the separate voucher conditions: a 12-digit voucher is single-use and region-restricted. Use the voucher flow and check that the account and Store region match its terms. These restrictions are distinct from the 10-digit discount-code rules.
If you have checked these points and still cannot tell which rule applies, identify the product and offer type first. Is it a 10-digit code for an eligible purchase, a 12-digit voucher, a Plus promotion shown for your account, or the UK automatic hardware offer? That determines whether the next step is the cart discount option, the voucher flow, or reviewing the offer’s own terms. - Identify whether you have a 10-digit discount code, a 12-digit voucher, or an offer attached to Plus.
