EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard may find deleted files if their data has not been overwritten, but recovery is never guaranteed. Stop using the affected drive, scan the location where the files were lost, and save anything recovered to a different drive. If the drive is failing or the data is irreplaceable, avoid repeated scans and consider professional assessment.
Before you scan: protect the deleted data
When a file is deleted, its storage space can be marked as available even though some of its data remains. New writes may overwrite that data, so avoid downloading, installing, copying, or saving files to the affected drive. Microsoft explains this risk in its Windows File Recovery guidance.

- Check the Recycle Bin and available backups first. Microsoft’s recovery guidance presents its utility as an option when a file cannot be found in a backup or restored from the Recycle Bin.
- Prepare a separate destination drive with enough free space. Do not save recovered files to the drive being scanned; Microsoft requires different source and destination drives, and EaseUS likewise advises choosing a safe location.
- If the files are on the Windows system drive, avoid installing recovery software onto that drive if you can. EaseUS’s user guide describes connecting the system drive to another computer or using bootable media, but that guide may not reflect the latest product instructions; check the current manual before attempting either method.
These precautions reduce avoidable writes; they cannot restore data that has already been overwritten or discarded.
Recover deleted files with EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard
EaseUS describes a graphical workflow that selects a lost-data location, scans it, lets you filter or preview results, and restores selected files. Exact labels can vary by version.
#1 Best Overall
- Data recovery software for retrieving lost files
- Easily recover documents, audios, videos, photos, images and e-mails
- Rescue the data deleted from your recycling bin
- Prepare yourself in case of a virus attack
- Program compatible with Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 7
- Choose the source. Open Data Recovery Wizard and select the drive or location where the files were deleted.
- Run the scan. Start scanning and allow it to search. EaseUS describes quick deleted-file results followed by a deeper scan; results may appear before the scan finishes.
- Find likely files. Use the available filters and preview options to identify candidates. A listing is not proof that a file can be restored intact.
- Recover to another drive. Select the files and choose a destination that is physically separate from the source drive, such as an external drive.
- Verify the results. Open important recovered files and check their contents. A scan result or completed restore does not guarantee that the file is usable.
EaseUS documents its workflow in its product information and user guide. Its Windows support page notes that when file-system directory or index information is damaged, RAW recovery may be limited to certain common file types.
What to do if the scan finds nothing
- Confirm that you selected the correct drive or location, then let the deeper scan finish if the software offers one.
- Check whether a backup or another ordinary recovery location contains the file. Avoid writing new data to the source while you investigate.
- If the drive is an SSD, set expectations carefully. EaseUS says SSD recovery is harder because of TRIM, and Microsoft notes that new writes can overwrite deleted data. Neither source supports a promise that software can reverse TRIM or recover data the device has discarded. See EaseUS’s SSD recovery guidance and Microsoft’s explanation of overwrite risk.
- If the drive is not detected, appears physically damaged, or contains irreplaceable data, stop experimenting. The cited software guidance does not establish that a scanning tool can repair physical hardware; professional assessment is a separate option.
What affects the chance of recovery?
New data written after deletion
Recovery becomes less likely if other data has overwritten the space where the deleted file remained. Continuing to use the drive can create those writes, which is why the safest first action is to stop using it as much as practical.

- The Data Recovery Stick requires no technical skills — simply plug it into your Windows computer, click Start, and the software automatically begins scanning and recovering lost files within minutes. Compatible with Windows Vista, 7, 8, 10, & 11, it's designed to be a reliable first step when accidental deletion occurs.
- Recover photos (JPG, BMP, PNG, TIFF), Microsoft Office documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access), Open Office files, MP3 music files, PDFs, RTF documents, AutoCAD files, and HTML web pages. Whether it's personal memories or critical business files, the Data Recovery Stick covers the file types that matter most.
- Works with hard drives, USB drives, SD cards, memory sticks, and other common storage formats that use FAT or NTFS file systems — making it a single solution for hard drive recovery, USB drive recovery, SD card recovery, and more. Note: a media reader is required for micro SD cards and some mass storage devices.
- No Installation Required - The Data Recovery Stick runs entirely from the USB drive with no software installation on your computer — helping prevent new data from overwriting the files you're trying to recover. This also makes it ideal for use across multiple computers or in emergency situations where installation isn't practical.
- Use the Data Recovery Stick on as many computers as often as needed — simply clear the recovered data between uses to free up storage space. Software updates keep the tool compatible with newer systems and devices, backed by 25+ years of data software expertise from Paraben Consumer Software.
SSD TRIM and device behavior
EaseUS warns that SSD recovery is more difficult because of TRIM. Do not treat a scan as a way to undo data that the drive has already discarded.
File-system damage and RAW results
When directory or index information is damaged, software may locate content without its original file-system records. EaseUS says its RAW recovery supports only certain common file types, so a result may be incomplete or lack the original filename and folder information.

- Stellar Data Recovery Professional is a powerful data recovery software for restoring almost every file type from Windows PC and any external storage media like HDD, SSD, USB, CD/DVD, HD DVD and Blu-Ray discs. It recovers the data lost in numerous data loss scenario like corruption, missing partition, formatting, etc.
- Recovers Unlimited File Formats Retrieves lost data including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, and more from Windows computers and external drives. The software supports numerous file formats and allows user to add any new format to support recovery.
- Recovers from All Storage Devices The software can retrieve data from all types of Windows supported storage media, including hard disk drives, solid-state drives, memory cards, USB flash storage, and more. It supports recovery from any storage drive formatted with NTFS, FAT (FAT16/FAT32), or exFAT file systems.
- Recovers Data from Encrypted Drives This software enables users to recover lost or deleted data from any BitLocker-encrypted hard drive, disk image file, SSD, or external storage media such as USB flash drive and hard disks. Users will simply have to put the password when prompted by the software for recovering data from a BitLocker encrypted drive.
- Recovers Data from Lost Partitions In case one or more drive partitions are not visible under ‘Connected Drives,’ the ‘Can’t Find Drive’ option can help users locate inaccessible, missing, and deleted drive partition(s). Once located, users can select and run a deep scan on the found partition(s) to recover the lost data.
Physical failure
A software scan is not evidence that a physically failing drive is safe to keep using. If the device is inaccessible or making continued use risky, stop and seek an assessment rather than assuming another scan will help.
Compatibility depends on the version
EaseUS’s product page lists Windows 11, 10, 8, and 7, and file systems NTFS, exFAT, FAT variants, ext2/ext3, HFS+, and ReFS. Its Windows support page also lists ext4, so the vendor’s pages do not align completely. Check the exact installed edition and version before relying on support for a particular operating system, file system, or device. EaseUS lists device categories including HDDs, SSDs, external drives, USB drives, memory cards, RAID, and NAS; a listed category does not guarantee recovery from every device condition. The relevant vendor pages are the product page and Windows support page.

EaseUS or Microsoft’s Windows File Recovery?
Windows File Recovery is Microsoft’s command-line alternative for local storage on Windows 10 and Windows 11. It is available through Microsoft Store. The choice is mainly between a graphical scan-and-preview workflow and a command-line tool with recovery modes; both require a separate destination and neither can guarantee a usable result.

For Microsoft’s tool, start with Regular mode if you are unsure. Microsoft recommends Extensive mode for older deletions, formatted or corrupted NTFS drives, and non-NTFS file systems. Those modes apply to Windows File Recovery, not EaseUS. Microsoft’s documentation also says source and destination drives must differ. Read the Microsoft instructions before using its commands. Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025; Windows 10 may still run the utility, but no longer receives free updates or security fixes.
