For a voice-only recording, use Samsung Voice Recorder. To capture sound synchronized with footage, record in the Camera app; use Pro Video when you want control over microphone levels. The exact labels and control locations can vary with your Galaxy S22’s region and installed software.
Choose the recording method for what you need
| What you want to record | Use | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| A voice memo or other audio without video | Samsung Voice Recorder | Use the app’s on-screen recording controls. Its exact options may vary by software version. |
| Sound that stays synchronized with video | Camera app, in Video mode | For microphone-level controls, switch to Pro Video. |
| Audio from an external microphone | Camera or a compatible recording app | Accessory and app compatibility are not guaranteed; make a test recording first. |
Record a voice memo with Voice Recorder
- Open Samsung Voice Recorder. If prompted, allow the app to use the microphone.
- Tap the visible record control to start recording.
- Tap the stop control when you are finished, then play back the recording to check it.
Samsung provides Galaxy S22 manuals for multiple Android generations on its Canadian support page. Refer to the manual that matches your model and software for exact screens and any options available on your device.
Record audio with video
Use standard Video mode for a straightforward take
Open Camera, select Video mode, and record as usual. This is the direct choice when you want audio captured with the footage rather than as a separate memo.
Use Pro Video for microphone-level controls
Samsung describes Pro Video microphone controls for the Galaxy S22 series, including control of the phone’s microphones and Galaxy Buds. The controls’ location can depend on software: Samsung update notes say the Pro Video microphone controls were moved to quick controls. If older instructions do not match your screen, open Pro Video and check its quick controls rather than relying on a fixed menu path. See Samsung Newsroom México’s feature description and Samsung’s software update notes.

#1 Best Overall
- The S22 uses a flat (non‑curved) 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 120 Hz refresh that dynamically adjusts between 48 – 120 Hz depending on content — which means smoother scrolling and better battery efficiency when high refresh isn’t needed.
- Its main rear camera features a 50 MP sensor with what Samsung calls “Tetra‑binning,” delivering stronger detail in bright light and surprisingly good low‑light photos compared to many older flagships.
- The build quality is designed to feel premium and durable: it uses an Armor Aluminum frame combined with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ on front and back, which gives better scratch and drop resistance — nice if you want a relatively compact but rugged flagship.
- For video content and editing, the S22 supports 8K recording — rare for a “smaller” flagship. That means you can shoot very high-resolution video, useful if you care about future‑proofing footage or cropping/editing later.
- The phone strikes a balance of compactness and performance — in a world of increasingly large phones, the S22 remains fairly pocket‑friendly while still packing the 4 nm flagship‑class chipset (Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Exynos 2200 depending on region) for smooth daily performance.
Check the sound before an important recording
- Set up the phone and microphone as you intend to use them.
- Record a few seconds while speaking at the planned distance and volume.
- Play the sample through headphones or the phone speaker and check that the sound is usable.
Using a wired or wireless external microphone
Check the connector and the microphone’s compatibility with your exact S22 model and recording app. Samsung’s China specification for model SM-S9010 lists USB Type-C for both USB and headphone connection; that specification should not be assumed to describe every regional S22 variant. A US T-Mobile specification sheet also identifies USB-C. Check your own model’s regional specifications before buying or connecting an accessory: Samsung China’s SM-S9010 specifications and Samsung Electronics America’s T-Mobile specification sheet.
- USB-C microphone: Confirm that the microphone supports your phone and the app you plan to use; a USB-C connector alone does not establish compatibility.
- 3.5 mm microphone: If your microphone uses a 3.5 mm plug, check that any USB-C adapter supports microphone input. Headphone output alone does not establish recording support.
- Wireless system: Check that its receiver works with the phone’s USB-C connection and the recording app.
The cited specifications do not certify a particular third-party microphone, adapter, or wireless kit. Before relying on an accessory, connect it, make a short recording, and play it back to verify that the phone captured the intended microphone.
