On a supported Samsung Galaxy device, open the Quick settings panel, tap Screen recorder, choose the available sound and capture options, then tap Start recording. If the tile is missing, add it from the panel editor. Samsung’s built-in recorder works on supported Galaxy phones and tablets; an extra app is not normally needed.
Check whether your Galaxy supports screen recording
Samsung describes Screen Recorder as available on Galaxy phones and tablets running One UI 2 or later, but support depends on the specific model. Individual recording options also vary by device, software version, and market. Check your exact model’s support information rather than assuming every Galaxy A, S, or Z device has the same features. Samsung’s Canada support page applies to devices sold in Canada; its model information should not be treated as a universal list. Start, pause, and stop a recording
- Open Quick settings. Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick panel. Depending on the software version, you may need to swipe down a second time to see all controls.
- Tap Screen recorder. If the tile is not visible, open the panel editor, find Screen recorder, and add it to the panel. The editor’s button or wording may vary by version.
- Choose the available recording options. Select a sound source and any capture options shown before recording. These may include showing taps or choosing a screen area.
- Tap Start recording. Wait for the countdown; capture begins when it ends.
- Use the recording toolbar. Tap pause to temporarily stop capture, resume to continue, or stop to finish and save the recording.
Samsung’s US screen recording instructions describe the Quick panel as the launch point and Gallery as the place to find saved recordings. The exact album or storage path can differ with software and settings.

Choose settings for the video you need
Before recording, consider what the viewer needs to hear and see. The settings offered on your Galaxy may be a subset of the following; check the recorder screen and settings on your own device.

- Sound: Depending on the device, choose no sound, media sounds, or media sounds with microphone input. Use microphone input when you need to narrate or include nearby audio.
- Capture area: Some devices offer full-screen capture or a selected area. A selected area can keep unrelated screen content out of a demonstration.
- Show taps: Turn on touch indicators when recording a tutorial so viewers can follow where you tap. Turn them off if they would clutter the video.
- Front-camera overlay: Some devices can show a small front-camera view over the screen recording. This is optional and is not available on every model.
- Video quality and size: Samsung describes quality and video-size settings, though the choices vary. Higher quality can make a larger file, so use the level that suits the intended viewing and available storage.
On Samsung’s US guidance, recorder settings are under Settings > Advanced features > Screenshots and screen recorder. Menu names and locations may differ on other software versions.
Recording limits, protected content, and call audio
Samsung Canada’s guidance updated July 16, 2026 states that Android 10 (One UI 2.5) screen recordings are limited to 1 hour or 4 GB. For Android 11 (One UI 3.0) or later, Samsung says there is no file-size or recording-time limit. That version-specific statement does not remove practical limits such as the storage available on the device. See Samsung Canada’s guidance and its version qualifications.

Some protected photos, videos, apps, and websites block screen capture. Samsung cautions that “Not all screens or apps allow recordings or screenshots.” Its US support page also says Screen Recorder will not record phone calls, VOIP calls, or video calls. These restrictions are not settings to work around; if capture is blocked, the content or call may not be recordable through the built-in feature.

Find the saved video
After you stop recording, open Gallery to find the video. Samsung’s US instructions identify Gallery as the place to access recordings; the particular album name and file location can vary by device software and settings. If it is not immediately visible, check Gallery’s video albums and allow the app a moment to index the new file.
