To change the Wi-Fi network on the original Fitbit Aria, restart its setup mode, connect your phone or computer to the scale’s temporary Wi-Fi network, then select your home network and enter its password in Fitbit’s setup page. The original Aria must be reconnected after a router, network name, provider, or password change.
First, make sure you have the original Aria
Fitbit uses different setup steps for the original Aria, Aria 2, and Aria Air. Check the battery compartment or the label on the back before starting:

Reconnect the original Aria to a new Wi-Fi network
- Prepare a Wi-Fi-enabled phone, tablet, or computer. Open the Fitbit scale setup page and sign in to the account associated with the scale. Have the home network name and password ready.
- Restart the scale’s setup process. Remove one battery, wait 10 seconds, then reinsert it.
- Enter setup mode. When the display shows the old network name followed by “Tap to change,” briefly and firmly press the two corners farthest from the display. Release when “Set Up Active” appears. If the screen goes blank or shows measurement information instead, remove and reinsert a battery and try again.
- Join the temporary Aria network. In the phone, tablet, or computer’s Wi-Fi settings, connect to the network named “Aria” followed by six characters. Return to the setup page in your browser.
- Select your home network and enter its password. The password is case-sensitive and, according to Google’s setup instructions, must be no more than 31 characters for the original Aria. Submit the setup page.
- Check the scale display. A check mark or smiley face indicates a successful connection. If an error appears, use the troubleshooting steps below.
What Wi-Fi settings does the original Aria support?
The original Aria is a legacy Wi-Fi device. Google lists support for 802.11b, WEP/WPA/WPA2 personal security, and DHCP (automatic IP addressing). Static IP configuration is not supported. See Google’s setup and router requirements and the Aria manual.

If the network name (SSID) or password contains special characters and setup fails, Google recommends using only alphanumeric characters. The router must also allow the scale to connect; the Aria is not configured by entering a static IP address.
Fix “WIFI ERR,” “NO SYNC,” or a failed setup
Google identifies an incorrect password or router configuration as common causes of setup errors. The scale should be within 10 feet of the router during setup. Check these items in order:

- Recheck the password: Enter it exactly, including capitalization, and verify that it is within the 31-character limit.
- Check router compatibility: Confirm that the network uses a supported security mode and DHCP rather than a static IP setup for the scale.
- Review access restrictions: Firewall settings or MAC filtering can prevent the scale from communicating with the router.
- Temporarily bypass an extender or repeater: Google lists network extenders and repeaters as possible causes of connection problems. Try setup near the main router.
- Restart setup if necessary: Remove and reinsert a battery, then repeat the connection steps.
After a router or network change, “NO SYNC” or a Wi-Fi symbol marked with an X means the scale cannot communicate with the network. Google’s troubleshooting guidance is available through its Fitbit scale setup help.

Can you use a phone hotspot instead?
A hotspot is a fallback when a wireless router is unavailable, not the normal way to update the Aria. Google says the hotspot must stay active during setup, can drain the phone battery quickly, and requires a second Wi-Fi-enabled device to complete the process. The scale still needs to be configured through the setup page.

How the other Fitbit scales differ
Do not use the original Aria’s “Tap to change” and temporary-network steps for other models. Google lists different wireless capabilities and setup flows:
