If you mean sending viewers from a finished stream to a later event, use YouTube Live Redirect instead: it hands off the audience but does not retransmit the original video.
First, choose what “rebroadcast” means

How to rebroadcast a prepared feed with an encoder
1. Check that your channel can go live
YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started guidance says the channel must be verified, must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, and the creator must meet YouTube’s minimum age requirement of 16. Check the current eligibility information for your account before scheduling the event.

2. Create or schedule the event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room.
- Create a new encoder-based live stream, or schedule it for later.
- Review the event details and visibility before publishing. Scheduling gives you time to prepare and can create a watch page in advance.
3. Connect the encoder using the stream URL and key
In the Live Control Room, find the stream URL and stream key, then enter them in the encoder’s corresponding server/URL and key fields. The URL identifies where the feed is sent; the key identifies the stream YouTube should accept. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or include it in a public recording or screenshot. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder with the new key.

4. Match the output settings to the feed and YouTube’s current guidance
Set the encoder’s resolution, frame rate, bitrate, codec, and protocol to a configuration supported by both the encoder and YouTube. There is no single bitrate that suits every stream: the appropriate recommendation depends on resolution, frame rate, and codec. Use YouTube’s current encoder-settings table for the configuration you select rather than copying a generic bitrate from another setup.
For YouTube’s documented RTMP workflow, YouTube recommends RTMPS. Its settings guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 among supported video codecs; compatibility still depends on your encoder and chosen configuration. Check the device or software documentation before relying on a particular codec or protocol.

5. Test the complete path before the event
- Use representative audio and motion; a static test image will not expose every issue that appears in a real feed.
- Start sending a test feed and check the preview and stream health in Live Control Room.
- Open the watch page on the devices your audience is likely to use and confirm that picture and sound are working.
- Keep upload capacity above the encoder’s stream bitrate. YouTube recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom over the stream bitrate.
6. Start the event from the correct control
Start the encoder’s output and watch for the incoming preview in Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, check the preview and select Go live when you are ready. Some workflows begin the live event when the encoder starts sending; follow the controls shown for the event you created. Keep the encoder connected and monitor stream health while the event is running.

How YouTube Live Redirect works
Use Live Redirect when the original event has ended and you want to send its viewers to a Premiere or another channel’s live stream. In YouTube Studio, edit the originating live video, open Customization, add a redirect, and choose the destination.

- The sending creator must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes, according to YouTube’s Live Redirect help.
- To redirect viewers to another channel’s live stream, you need permission from that destination channel. Destination channels can configure who is allowed to redirect viewers to their content.
- Set up the destination Premiere before the live stream, and tell viewers there may be a few seconds while screens reload.
A redirect is an audience handoff after the event, not a replay or retransmission method.
Equipment, archives, and rights to the content
What equipment is required?
You need a compatible software or hardware encoder for an encoder-based feed. YouTube describes software encoding as an option and recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events; its guidance does not make a hardware purchase mandatory for every creator. Check that an encoder accepts your actual source feed and supports the protocol and output settings you plan to use.

What happens to DVR and the archive?
When DVR is enabled, viewers can pause and rewind during a live stream, then resume from where they paused. They cannot seek to a point before the stream began. YouTube says DVR features may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours, while its encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If retaining the event matters, keep a local recording and verify the archive after the stream.

Having a video file, stream URL, or working encoder does not establish that you have the rights to rebroadcast someone else’s video, music, or live feed. Confirm that you have permission for the specific content and check YouTube’s current copyright and content policies before streaming it. The setup steps alone do not determine whether a particular rebroadcast is authorized.

Common problems and what to check
