Offer one in-game Diamond at Grandpa’s Shrine after the Year 3 evaluation to request a new assessment. If you want a better result, improve your farm’s scoring milestones before making the offering; the Diamond triggers a retry but does not add points. When the new evaluation lights all four candles, interact with the shrine to collect the Statue of Perfection.
How to request another evaluation
- Check your current candle count. Grandpa first evaluates the farm at dawn on Year 3, and the candles indicate the result. If fewer than four are lit, the shrine remains available for another evaluation.
- Improve milestones first if needed. Re-evaluation checks your current progress; it does not automatically raise your score.
- Offer one Diamond. Put an in-game Diamond into the shrine in the northwestern corner of the farm. The shrine’s prompt reads, “There’s a diamond-shaped slot in the shrine… was that always there?” The Diamond is consumed as an offering.
- Wait for Grandpa’s return. He generally appears the following day. Once four candles are lit, interact with the shrine to claim the Statue of Perfection.
What score earns four candles?
The evaluation has 21 possible points. Four candles—and eligibility for the Statue of Perfection—require at least 12 points.

Milestones to improve before retrying
Use the categories below to identify attainable points. Earnings thresholds are cumulative score levels, not points to add together: reaching a higher threshold gives the listed total for that category.

Skills and achievements
- Gain 1 point at 30 combined skill levels, and another at 50 combined levels (level 10 in every skill).
- Earn 1 point each for completing the museum collection (“A Complete Collection”), catching every fish (“Master Angler”), and shipping every item (“Full Shipment”).
Friendship, home, and progression
- Marriage with at least two house upgrades—the kitchen and nursery, not the cellar—earns 1 point.
- At least eight hearts with five villagers earns 1 point; at least eight hearts with ten villagers earns another. The wiki notes the underlying friendship check is slightly below the visible eight-heart threshold, though the exact value is not shown in game.
- About five hearts with your pet earns 1 point.
- Completing the Community Center earns 1 point; seeing its completion ceremony earns 2 more.
- Obtaining the Skull Key and the Rusty Key earns 1 point each.
The Community Center completion and ceremony points are unavailable if you convert the building into a Joja Warehouse. The milestones are options rather than a prescribed order: which to pursue depends on what you have already completed and what is practical for your farm.

When the re-evaluation happens—and what to do if it is delayed
Grandpa generally returns the day after you offer the Diamond, but the event can wait for a game load or, in some cases, the beginning of the next season. The available reference does not establish identical timing across every platform or version, so a missing next-morning cutscene does not by itself mean the request failed.
There is also a documented cutscene-order exception: if you marry on Year 3, Spring 1, the marriage scene can take precedence. The shrine still reflects the evaluation, and Grandpa’s scene plays the next time you enter the farmhouse.

At a score of 12 or more, the four-candle result lets you collect the Statue of Perfection by interacting with the shrine. The statue produces 2–8 Iridium Ore per day. Grandpa’s evaluation otherwise has no further effect on the game, and you can continue playing indefinitely.
