Choose the reset that matches the problem: unplugging the printer for 60 seconds can help with an error, while reconnecting Wi-Fi requires restoring the printer’s wireless setup mode and adding it again in the HP app. A power reset alone does not set up the network connection.
Which reset does your HP printer need?

How to restore Wi-Fi setup mode
The controls differ by printer. Use the touchscreen/menu method if the printer has one; button-only steps are not universal across HP models.

Printer with a touchscreen or menu
- Open Wireless or Setup on the printer.
- Open Network setup or Settings.
- Select Restore Network Settings.
Printer without a touchscreen or menu
- On many models, press and hold Wireless and Cancel together for five seconds, or until the wireless indicator blinks.
- If the indicator does not blink, stop and check the instructions for your exact printer model. HP notes that button combinations vary by printer family.
Add the printer in the HP app
- Open the HP app on your phone, tablet, or computer.
- Follow the guided steps to find the printer and connect it to your Wi-Fi network.
- Complete setup within two hours of restoring setup mode. HP says the wireless icon or light blinks until a connection is made or two hours pass.
Reconnect after changing your router or Wi-Fi password
A new router, internet provider, network name, or Wi-Fi password can leave the printer disconnected. Have the current network name and password ready, then use the printer’s wireless controls to reconnect or restore Wi-Fi setup mode and complete setup in the HP app. Some HP printers without a touchscreen also support WPS; availability and steps depend on the model. How to power-reset an HP printer with an error
- If the printer has a rechargeable battery, remove it.
- Turn the printer off. If it will not turn off, disconnect its power cord.
- Unplug the cord from the power source and wait 60 seconds.
- Connect the cord to the printer and directly to a wall outlet.
- Turn the printer on.
This procedure is for printer errors or failures; it does not restore Wi-Fi setup mode. If the network needs configuring again, follow the Wi-Fi steps separately.

What to check if the HP app cannot find the printer
- Check that the printer is powered on and that the network is available.
- Restart the printer and the computer or mobile device running the app.
- Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on the printer, then try adding it again in the HP app.
- If the wireless indicator does not respond to a commonly used button combination, look up the instructions for the exact printer model rather than repeating the combination.
