1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesProtecting a YouTube live stream starts with securing the Google Account behind the channel: turn on 2-Step Verification and use a passkey, keep recovery options current, and give collaborators channel permissions instead of your password. If your channel is compromised, recover the Google Account first. If only the broadcast drops, do not assume it was a hack; account-security guidance does not diagnose encoder, network, or YouTube service interruptions.
Secure the Google Account behind your channel
A YouTube channel takeover involves a compromised associated Google Account. Protect that account and prepare to recover it before you need to. YouTube recommends 2-Step Verification with a passkey for its strongest protection against phishing, along with recovery options. YouTube’s channel security guidance explains the available protections.

- Enable 2-Step Verification. In your Google Account security settings, turn it on and choose a passkey as the second verification method where available. YouTube describes passkeys as its strongest phishing protection among the listed methods.
- Add recovery options. Keep a recovery phone number and email address current so you have a way to regain account access.
- Review other verification methods. YouTube ranks Google prompts above SMS codes; SMS and printed backup codes are less secure options. A compatible physical security key is also an available re-authentication method, but the guidance does not establish a particular model or guarantee compatibility for every device. See YouTube’s security guidance and its account re-authentication information.
- Keep devices clean. Scan for malware, avoid untrusted software and files, and consider Enhanced Safe Browsing in Chrome, as recommended in YouTube’s creator safety tips.
Control who can access the channel
Do not share your Google Account sign-in details with editors, moderators, producers, or other collaborators. Use YouTube channel permissions or Brand Account permissions instead, assign only the access each person needs, and periodically remove access that is no longer required. Also review connected apps and remove ones you no longer use. These steps limit exposure if a collaborator’s account or an old integration becomes a risk. YouTube’s safety tips for creators cover permissions and connected apps.

Spot phishing before it reaches your channel
Unexpected sponsorship pitches and brand-deal requests can be used to lure creators into sharing credentials or opening malicious files. Verify a request through a contact method you already trust, rather than relying on links or contact details in the message. Do not hand over channel access or open suspicious attachments just to review a deal. YouTube says it will not ask for your password or account details by email, message, or phone call. Its creator safety guidance recommends caution with suspicious offers, links, and files.

What to do if your YouTube channel may be hacked
Possible warning signs include profile or description edits, email-setting or AdSense-association changes you did not make, and videos you did not upload. These signs warrant an account-security response; they do not, on their own, establish why a live broadcast stopped.
- Recover the Google Account associated with the channel. If you cannot sign in, use Google Account recovery and set a new password that you do not use on any other account.
- Secure the account immediately after recovery. Recheck verification and recovery options, review account access, and remove access you do not recognize.
- Undo unauthorized channel changes. Restore profile and channel settings, and address unapproved uploads or other changes as promptly as possible.
- Check access for every channel user. Review permissions and associated users, not just the owner’s account, and remove unauthorized or stale access.
- Use YouTube’s recovery help. Follow the hacked-channel recovery guidance and hacked-channel assistant. Eligible creators who have recovered their Google Account may contact Creator Support. YouTube says support for potential hacking incidents is limited to incidents within the past nine months because of data retention.
Tell a suspected account takeover from a stream interruption
A dropped or disrupted broadcast is not proof that someone hacked your account. Account protection helps reduce takeover risk, but it does not diagnose a network problem, encoder failure, or YouTube service incident. YouTube’s live streaming tips cover setup and eligibility, not a complete method for identifying the cause of an interruption. Check for unauthorized account or channel changes separately from the technical status of the broadcast; the available guidance does not provide a definitive test to distinguish network, encoder, and platform causes.
For a live stream, YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Its guidance identifies mobile, webcam, and encoder streaming methods. Confirm eligibility before planning a broadcast, but do not treat eligibility as a security control or a recovery procedure. See YouTube’s live streaming tips.

StreamNeo is a separate option for keeping uploaded videos live on YouTube; it does not replace securing your Google Account, channel permissions, or recovery options. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The service loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card.
