Start with a minimal prompt that leaves out identifying details, and understand what Keep Activity, Temporary Chat, and connected apps actually do before sharing calendar information.
What can a day-planning prompt reveal?
Gemini can process the text you enter and other content you share, including files, images, videos, screens, and information from connected apps. A calendar-based request can expose more than a list of tasks: names, locations, appointments, relationships, and sensitive meeting subjects may all be present. Share only the detail needed to get a useful answer. Google’s Gemini Apps Privacy Hub explains how information is handled when you use Gemini Apps while signed in.

Use neutral labels instead of personal details
Rather than pasting a full calendar entry, try “appointment A,” “a 30-minute errand,” or “a focused work block.” You can ask Gemini to suggest a schedule structure or prioritize tasks without including names, exact addresses, medical details, account numbers, or confidential meeting topics. Add specifics only if they are necessary for the task and you are comfortable sharing them.
What do Keep Activity and Temporary Chat change?
For personal accounts, Google describes three relevant choices. They affect whether chats are saved in Gemini Apps Activity and used for model improvement or personalization; none prevents Gemini from processing what you send to respond or for safety purposes. Google’s Privacy Hub describes the following settings and retention periods.

These are Google’s stated policy periods, not independent measurements or a guarantee that every record is erased at the stated time. The Privacy Hub also says data reviewed by service providers is disconnected from the account and saved for three years. Submitting feedback can include recent chat context and content, so treat feedback as a separate act of sharing. See Google’s current explanation of activity, review, and retention.
Change Keep Activity for a personal account
In Gemini Apps, open Settings & help, choose Gemini Apps Activity, then review the Keep Activity control. Google’s Android help page describes this personal-account activity control; labels and availability may vary by account or interface. Turning Keep Activity off changes how future Gemini chats are handled, not every Google data setting. It does not by itself change separate settings such as Web & App Activity or Location History. When Temporary Chat is useful
Use Temporary Chat for a one-off prompt you do not want saved in Gemini Apps Activity or used for personalization. Do not treat it as anonymous, invisible, or zero-retention: Google says the chats remain for 72 hours and may still be processed for service and safety.
What happens when you connect Calendar or Gmail?
Connecting an app can let Gemini use information from that service to answer your prompt. Google says it does not train models directly on a connected Gmail inbox, Drive, Contacts, Calendar, other Workspace apps, or Google Photos imagery or audio. However, summaries, excerpts, generated media, and inferences from connected data may be used to answer prompts and train models when Gemini Apps Activity is on. Before connecting Calendar or Gmail, consider whether the source contains private or confidential information beyond what your planning task requires. If it does, avoid connecting it or use a prompt that does not rely on that source. Connected-app behavior described on Google’s consumer personalization page should not be assumed to cover every Workspace configuration or enterprise contract.
Disconnecting an app is not the same as deleting activity
If you have already connected an app, disconnecting it does not delete information already stored in Gemini Apps Activity. Deleting Gemini Apps Activity also does not erase the original data in Calendar, Gmail, or another source service. Review or delete Gemini activity separately from managing the data in its source app. Google’s Connected Apps guidance describes this distinction.

Are the controls different for work or school accounts?
They can be. With a work or school account, the Workspace administrator controls Gemini Apps Activity settings, so the personal-account controls may not be available to you. Follow your organization’s policy and ask the administrator before using work information in Gemini. Google’s activity help page notes the administrator’s role.

A privacy-conscious way to plan your day
- Start without connecting anything. Ask for a prioritization method or a sample schedule using generic tasks.
- Remove unnecessary identifiers. Replace names, locations, sensitive subjects, and other specifics with neutral labels.
- Choose the chat mode deliberately. For a personal account, check Keep Activity before using Gemini; choose Temporary Chat for a one-off prompt you do not want saved in Activity or used for personalization, while remembering its stated 72-hour retention.
- Assess a connected source before enabling it. Do not connect a calendar, inbox, or other source containing confidential information you would not want used to answer prompts or potentially reviewed.
- Clean up both places if needed. Manage Gemini Apps Activity and the original source service separately; disconnecting an app alone does not remove existing Gemini activity.
- For a managed account, check policy first. Ask your Workspace administrator what controls apply before entering work or school information.
